COVID-19: Delta Civil Society prays for Okowa's family, others

The Civil Society Community in Delta State has prayed for the quick recovery of Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa, his wife, Dame Edith Okowa, Daughter and others Deltans who have contracted COVID-19.

In a statement released in Asaba on Sunday 5th July, 2020 which was signed by Deacon Okezi Odugala, Acting State Coordinator and Mr Sylvester Itimi, Secretary prayed for the quick recovery of the Governor, Sen Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, his wife, daughter and others who have contracted COVID-19 in the state and presently receiving treatment.

According to the state coordinator, "the Governor and his energetic team have been in the front line working tirelessly to overcome the pandemic in the state and their contracting the virus is sacrificial for standing as a wall of defense in eradicating the evil virus from Delta State.

"We therefore call on Deltans and non-Deltan to reciprocate by abiding to the health guidelines given by government and WHO towards keeping safe.

"The Community is using this medium to inform the public that Coronavirus is real but we can overcome it if we all observe the safety practices of hand washing with soap under running water, use of hand sanitizer, keeping social/physical distancing, wearing of face mask and call the dedicated emergency hotlines as given by NCDC and Delta State Government if having any signs and report any suspected case of COVID-19 infection,"

He also called on Deltans to continue to partner with the government in enthroning sustainable development in our dear state as the present times calls for obedience, spiritual reawakening, sober reflection, resilience and innovation as we are more than able to overcome this challenging times and continue in our path of prosperity," he added.

The Civil Society Community gave the assurance of intensifying their advocacy and ensure compliance monitoring of COVID-19 across the state.
