Some policemen attached to the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department on Tuesday searched the home of the suspended acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu.
A top police officer told The PUNCH that the policemen searched Magu’s house located on Abduljalil Street, Karu Site, on the outskirts of Abuja, for several hours and made away with vital documents.

The policemen who carried out the search were said to be the same ones who arrested Magu on Monday.

The officer said, “On Tuesday evening, a team of policemen stormed the home of Magu in Karu. That is the house where Magu used to live before he moved to Maitama after his appointment as EFCC chairman.

“The policemen made away with some items and everything will be processed as investigations continue.”

Meanwhile, it was learnt that Magu was detained for a second day after answering questions from the panel for over five hours on Tuesday.

He was subsequently taken into custody again at about 7pm.

A top source told The PUNCH that a police investigation was ongoing simultaneously with that of the panel.

“As the panel makes it findings and establishes certain allegations, the police will continue to open investigations. We were told that he had bought some properties, so one of the reasons we searched the Karu home was that we wanted to lay our hands on some of these documents. We have been able to make some findings,” he said.

Meanwhile, it was learnt that Magu may be brought before the Force Disciplinary Committee made up of deputy inspectors-general of police for trial and possible dismissal.

A top security agent said since Magu is a Commissioner of Police, he cannot be charged until he is properly dismissed from the police.

He said, “After the panel has finished sitting and once Magu is found wanting on any of the 24 allegations, he would be made to face the Force Disciplinary Committee which comprises the DIGs. The committee would make a recommendation to the IG who would in turn forward the report to the Police Service Commission. The PSC would then do the needful.

“Magu already has an existing disciplinary case in his police file. So, as a second-time offender, dismissal would be very easy.”

Under Magu, Joshua Dariye went to jail, Jolly Nyame is in jail, Orji Uzor Kalu was in prison. What the hell was Magu thinking soiling himself, not understanding that the other ex-governors under prosecution and current governors being investigated would not fight back? So you think Yahaya Bello wants to go to prison?

It is quite sad that all EFCC past chairmen have been disgraced out of office, including the frugal and incorruptible Nuhu Ribadu. The issue with many of these agencies is that there is too much money that one can hardly resist the urge to steal.

PS: An agency like the EFCC needs to be a judicial agency. Once it is removed from the executive, executive vulturism by the likes of Malami would end. I think its time Justice Ayo Salami heads the EFCC let us see a crazy man there for once.

Some kind things we go hear happening under this “corruption fighting and free” administration will be so disheartening if another party wins the election.

So Nigeria is actually practicing the check and balances they taught us in government class in secondary school..

After DSS is through with their checking, another corruption fighting organization should check they themselves to balance the whole thing.

Guess who was the champion of house raids? Magu! ... without warrants! Lawless bunch of cowboys who raided the house of an individual, detained him for 3 months trying to force him to make a confession. He didn’t, he came out and sued them. They denied arresting or detaining him... they lost, he won 10 million naira against them. They appealed up to the Supreme Court and they lost! They haven’t paid yet...

Magu is going down as a Villain of 2020. He got intoxicated with power, got delirious and became a power to himself. This is a time of reflection and introspection for everyone that nothing last forever.

Everything in life is ephemeral.

Latest from the PRESIDENCY about this IMPORTANT Issue.

The Presidency says the ongoing interrogation of the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, is to clear him of weighty allegations leveled against him.
A presidency source, who preferred not to be named, told State House correspondents in Abuja on Tuesday, July 7; that the probe of Magu was an affirmation that nobody under “the present administration is above scrutiny’’.

The source, who could neither confirm nor deny the suspension of Magu as reported by traditional and social media outfits; maintained that the investigation of the EFCC boss was to reinforce the Buhari administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

He affirmed that the holder of an elevated office such as the chairman of the EFCC must be above suspicion.

According to the source, the Buhari administration would not prejudge anyone because it can be counted on to uphold justice and fairness.

The source said: “The panel investigating allegations against the Acting EFCC Chairman had been sitting for some weeks now.

“In consonance with the principle of fairness and justice; it was needful that the Acting Chairman be given the opportunity to respond to the allegations, which are weighty in nature.

Under the Muhammadu Buhari administration, nobody is above scrutiny. The investigation is to reinforce transparency and accountability, rather than to vitiate it.

“Accountability for our actions or inactions is an inalienable part of democracy. In such an elevated position as that of EFCC Chairman, the holder of the position must be above suspicion.

There’s no prejudgment — absolutely none. The Buhari administration can be counted on to uphold fairness and justice at all times.”

A presidency source had earlier confirmed that Magu was on Tuesday afternoon suspended from office; following the ongoing investigation by the presidential panel, headed by retired Justice Ayo Salami.

Saraki Senate confirmed him a thief, presidency said he is a saint and whether he is confirmed or not, he remains the chairman of the commission..following the way this man was hyped by the presidency, I never could believe the same house would publicly throw him down this way..

Imagine this man telling the Senate he has no idea of the amount he has recovered from his anti corruption fight.. That was the day I confirmed him a thief
