Something strange happened two nights ago. My cousin was eating his food late in the night when he started complaining of chest pain. He was rushed to the hospital and his vital organs were checked - blood pressure was normal. But a few minutes later he could not breathe properly and started gasping for air. He died in the hospital and was taken to a mortuary. I received news of his death yesterday morning and rushed down to see him. He was not sick and did not have any underlying ailments. His death was sudden and came as a surprise. Later, when my wife called the deceased's wife to console her, the woman gave us full details of the incident. She emphasized that my cousin suddenly took ill and died within a few minutes. The mortuary charged us 20,000 Naira for two days which will elapse sometime today. There was no diagnosis and no time to run a comprehensive test, including COVID-19, to ascertain the cause of death. I am in a fix now because my older cousin (deceased's brother) asked me to meet with him at the deceased's house to discuss his burial. Could it be a case of COVID-19? This incident happened on Tuesday Night/Wednesday Morning at Alakia - Iwo Road Axis, Ibadan, Oyo State. |

colp2015:A posthumous test or autopsy would have been done, if anything, at least for the sake of the living to establish cause of death. There is a pandemic so it is always wise to quickly isolate causes of death in order to play safe. Now I know how you feel. It becomes worrisome when those in the immediate environment where this took place do not share your belief in the rampaging Coronavirus. Why not go into a conversation with them and tactfully suggest the need for an autopsy and find out their reaction. I know this is sensitive but it is important you ascertain their feelings and emotions so you do not injure them emotionally. My condolences. 1 Like |

I think there is no need of giving figures of the coronavirus every day rather it will very interesting if the Nigerian government gives Nigerians the movement they have made to find out the drugs to cure the pandemic |

All people saying take precaution, let me ask you a question, what exactly are you/the government doing that folks in the US have not done that makes you not to catch the virus I submit to say that most Nigerians can do nothing to prevent the spread of the virus. In my home for instance, we don't have running water, we share a well with the neighboring compound. Lagos is overly jam packed and nose masks can only help reduce the spread of the virus when everyone wears it. As I am typing this message, I am sitting in my street and can't observe a single soul moving about on nose mask. So what exactly are we doing? If this virus isn't spreading, it must be due to nature fighting some unknown battle for us because we have done nothing to stop the spread, even countries that have placed draconian measures in place and are now recovering have more daily cases than Nigeria. So in my opinion, all these restrictions or partial restrictions are a bunch of nonsense. |

Please I want to know how you arrive at the 2302 as the number of samples tested. Because from observation, on Tuesday 152952 was the total number of sample tested in total and on Wednesday it was 169629 samples in total. Subtracting one from the other its supposed to be 16677 samples tested on Wednesday. So please I really want to know ooooo.

Reuters WED JUL 8, 2020 / 2:12 PM EDT Russian firm gets approval for drug said to block coronavirus replication Photo FILE PHOTO: The ultrastructural morphology exhibited by the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV), which was identified as the cause of an outbreak of respiratory illness first detected in Wuhan, China, is seen in an illustration released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S. January 29, 2020. Alissa Eckert, MS; Dan Higgins, MAM/CDC/Handout via REUTERS (Reuters) - Russia has approved a new antiviral drug, Coronavir, to treat COVID-19 patients, its developer R-Pharm said on Wednesday, as Russia's tally of infections hit 700,000. It said a clinical trial involving mild or medium-level cases had shown the drug to be highly effective in inhibiting replication of the new coronavirus. "Coronavir is one of the first drugs in Russia and in the world that does not tackle the complications caused by SARS-CoV-2, but battles the virus itself," the company's statement said. ADVERTISEMENT It said a clinical study showed improvement in 55% of outpatient cases on the seventh day of treatment with Coronavir, against 20% of those with standard etiotropic therapy - meaning treatment of cause rather than symptoms. R-Pharm said there was also a significant difference at 14 days. By the fifth day of treatment, the novel coronavirus had been eliminated in 77.5% of patients who took the drug, R-Pharm said. "Global clinical practice and the clinical study we conducted have confirmed that Coronavir puts a much more rapid stop to the infection as a result of its effective obstruction of the virus's replication," Mikhail Samsonov, R-Pharm's medical director, was cited as saying. Testing began in late May and over 110 outpatients have now received the treatment, the head of clinical trials at Russia's Central Research Institute of Epidemiology, Tatyana Ryzhentsova, was cited as saying. The drug is the third registered in Russia to treat the new coronavirus. The first, Avifavir, has been given to patients since June 11. The health ministry gave its approval for Avifavir's use under an accelerated process while clinical trials, held over a shorter period and with fewer people than in many other countries, were still under way. ADVERTISEMENT In a statement on Wednesday, Russia's RDIF sovereign wealth fund, which provided financial backing for Avifavir, said it had asked the ministry to approve the drug for use by patients treating COVID-19 at home. It said second- and third-phase clinical trials, as well as data from the first month of hospital use, had demonstrated positive results when Avifavir was used in the early and middle stages of the illness. Russia's official nationwide case tally stood at 700,792 as of Wednesday, with 10,667 deaths. (Reporting by Andrew Osborn; Writing by Polina Ivanova; Editing by Kevin Liffey |
