Are you planning on buying a Samsung flagship next year, get your charger and other accessories ready as a report from Korean news site ETNews indicates Samsung may not include chargers in the boxes of some of its smartphones starting in 2021. The company is taking them out because many people already have chargers and this will help reduce costs, the report says.
While not including a charger in the box might seem like a big move, Samsung reportedly isn’t the only top phone manufacturer considering it.
According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple may do something similar with this year’s iPhone without including a charger in the box (sobs...). Apple can also eliminate the 5W and 18W chargers that currently come with iPhones (depending on the model you bought) and will offer a new 20W charger, which will be sold individually. Removing chargers from phone boxes could be an important way for Samsung and Apple to lower their phone sales costs and lower their phone package size, but it can also have a significant impact on the environment. Taking them out of some of the top-selling smartphones could help reduce the number of chargers that get thrown away by people which end up polluting the planet.
In my opinion, this development, coupled with the steep prices of this devices will further alienate budget buyers.
