President Donald Trump is expected to use his executive powers to commute the sentence of Roger Stone, his longtime friend, as early as Friday evening.

Fox News first reported the development.

Stone was scheduled to report to prison in order to serve a three year sentence for charges from former Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation.

Fox News says that sources indicated the President could commute the sentence as early as Friday evening.

Trump hinted at the possibility of a commutation earlier in the day.

"I think Roger Stone was very unfairly treated," said the President to reporters, "as were many people, and in the meantime Comey and all these guys are walking around, including Biden and Obama, because we caught them spying on my campaign. Who would have believed that one?"

Stone also told MSNBC's Howard Fineman that he didn't want a pardon from the President, which would imply guilt, but that he wanted a commutation.

"He knows I was under enormous pressure to turn on him," said Stone according to Fineman.

"It would have eased my situation considerably. But I didn't," he added.

8:20 p.m. Update: The White House press secretary released a lengthy statement after the President commuted the sentence of Roger Stone.

"Today, President Donald J. Trump signed an Executive Grant of Clemency commuting the unjust sentence of Roger Stone, Jr.," the statement said in part.

"Roger Stone is a victim of the Russia Hoax that the Left and its allies in the media perpetuated for years in an attempt to undermine the Trump Presidency. There was never any collusion between the Trump Campaign, or the Trump Administration, with Russia. Such collusion was never anything other than a fantasy of partisans unable to accept the result of the 2016 election. The collusion delusion spawned endless and farcical investigations, conducted at great taxpayer expense, looking for evidence that did not exist," the statement continued.

"Roger Stone has already suffered greatly," the statement later concluded. "He was treated very unfairly, as were many others in this case. Roger Stone is now a free man!"

Roger Stone was sentenced to 40 months in prison by a partisan Obama appointee, Judge Amy Berman Jackson.

She alluded to the Russia collusion conspiracy when she said, “Stone was not prosecuted for standing up for the President; he was prosecuted for covering up for the President."

Covering up how? A slip of memory is a cover up? Being a journalist and contacting WikiLeaks is a cover up? What exactly is the cover up? Whatever the Democrats say it is.

Nancy Pelosi and her crew may start the impeachment process anew if Trump pardons Roger Stone. That's rank hypocrisy. What about Bill Clinton? Roger Stone is not a criminal and committed no crime, but Bill pardoned many despicable crooks. Does anyone remember the pardon he granted to his billionaire friend, Marc Rich? Do the Democrats remember how Marc Rich arranged a hefty sum to be deposited into the Clinton Foundation? Of course not.

Obama has populated courts with Democrat partisans who are more than willing to use our justice system to go after his enemies. President Trump committed no crime, but the Democrats wanted to impeach him anyway. Roger Stone committed no crime, but the Democrats want him locked up anyway. Meanwhile, real crooks such as Hillary Clinton remain unlocked up.

President Trump commuted Roger Stone’s prison sentence on Friday.

Stone, a long time icon of American politics, helped Trump become President. Roger's book, "The Clinton's War Against Women," did significant damage to Hillary's campaign. She and the Deep State tried to exact revenge by coming after Stone during the Russia collusion witch hunt. Mueller and nearly two dozen heavily-armed FBI agents along with CNN made a show of storming Stone's home in Florida during the early hours of the morning. Such a raid was completely unwarranted. Stone was not a flight risk, but they treated him as if he were a terrorist.

It was all for naught because there was no Trump/Russia collusion and Mueller came up empty, but Stone was still on the hook and the Deep State was reeling him in for a long prison stretch. All because Stone had a slip of memory. It was a process crime and the FBI is good at setting people up for that. General Flynn received similar treatment.

Stone was tried in an Obama court in the bluest of blue territories. The jury was virulently anti-Trump. The entire sorry show was a charade designed to break Stone's finances and reputation as well as make Trump look bad. Hillary and the Democrats wanted their revenge.

The well-dressed Stone no longer has to face wearing a prison uniform. He is now free to work on his case and set the record straight, thanks to President Trump.
