Slant length is the hypotenuse = √(60²+12²) = 61.19 cm

Tan θ = opp ÷ adj
Tan θ = 12 ÷ 60
θ = 11.31°

Angle of divergence is 2 times θ
= 2 × 11.31°
= 22.62°

In physics perspective, Huygens principle will be deployed as the beam diameter can not be well defined. Therefore we use 1/e² beam diameter (i.e the diameter/radius that encompasses 86.5% of the beam)

Huygens principle?? please can you enlighten me on this?
Is it o'level physics?

yes, it is O'level physics under waves. The principle talks about secondary waves (wavelets).

Thanks. This will surely help a lot. I have an exam I am preparing for on laser and other applications of non-ionizing EM radiations (radio waves, microwaves, infrared, etc).

I've gone through the articles and they're not really helpful. They are not comprehensive at all especially the one on population inversion (energy pump).

Huygens' Principle is not an O' Level topic in Physics. It comes under A- Level.

In Cambridge curriculum, it comes under AS Level.

Well done for the calculation! Kudos!

you only want to complicate things. thats a secondary school mathematics right there. precisely SS1.
