Chelsea’s Didier Drogba, John Obi Mikel, Florent Malouda, Yuri Zhirkov and Jose Bosingwa must watch out: the arrival of £50M Torres and €25M David Luiz may force the quintet to quit Chelsea this summer.

Drogba, Obi Mikel, Malouda and company may have to walk out from Chelsea this summer.

England Premier League

Billionaire Roman Abramovich played a dangerous game on the last day of the January transfer window. The Chelsea owner splashed £75M on the table to make last minute deals with Liverpool and Benfica for Fernando Torres and David Luiz respectively. Reports even claim that Chelsea had planned to hit the £100M transfer fee mark as they were looking forward to capture Anderlecht’s Romelu Lukaku for £25M.

Ironically, a loss of £70M had been announced in the morning on January 31; so to hear the Blues spending so big in the evening sounded as a “illogical” and “insulting” to UEFA and to Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger who is known to be very cautious when it comes to financial matters. What are Chelsea’s plans, then, on the financial front?

According to The Sun, the Blues have put the job of Bosingwa, Drogba, Zhirkov, Malouda and Mikel on the line. A Chelsea source was quoted as saying by the English magazine:

“There are a few big names and big earners whose performances have fallen short this season. If things don not improve, there will be some notable casualties in the summer.

“The competition for places will be keener now and that should be a great motivation for everyone.”

Is Roman Abramovich pretending to play the game of money by in fact playing the game of psychology at the benefit of Chelsea? The Blues already picked 3 vital points after the close of the transfer window thanks to a 4-2 victory over Sunderland in a game where Nicolas Anelka’s remarkable performance seemed to be inspired by the player’s fear of losing his place to new signing Fernando Torres.

Chelsea will now play Liverpool on Sunday with the aim of maintaining the recent momentum. Didier Drogba is expected to play upfront with ex-Liverpool star Torres who will be making his debut for the Blues.

Not good news for Mikel. Hope he's invested well.

Chelsea owners must really be sick to think of selling Drogba for Torres, despite all the best he put in the team. Let me see how many goals Torres will score on Sunday.
