THOMAS ISIDORE NOEL SANKARA

Thomas Isidore Noel Sankara ( 21 December,1949-15 October,1987).
He was the president of Burkina Faso from 1983-1987. He was a Burkina Faso military captain, Pan-Africanist theorist who was loved by all as a charismatic and iconic figure of Revolution. He is commonly referred to as "Africa Che Guevera" and renamed Republic of Upper Volta to Burkina Faso.

Thomas Sankara achievements

1. He initiated a nation-wide literacy campaign, increasing the literacy rate from 13% in 1983 to 73% in 1987.

2. He sold off the government fleet of Mercedes cars and made the Renault 5 (the cheapest car sold in Burkina Faso at that time) the official service car of the ministers.

3. As President, he lowered his salary to $450 a month and limited his possessions to a car, four bikes, three guitars, a fridge and a broken freezer, he refused to use the air conditioning in his office saying such luxuries is not available to everyone.

4. He reduced the salaries of all public servants, including his own, and forbade the use of government Chauffeurs and 1st class airline tickets.

5. He required public servants to wear a traditional tunic, woven from Burkinabe cotton and sewn by Burkinabe craftsmen (The reason being to rely upon local industry and identity rather than foreign industry and identity).

6. He built roads and a railway to tie the nation together without foreign aid saying that “he who feeds you, controls you.”

7. He outlawed female genital mutilation, forced marriages and polygamy in support of Women’s rights and he wrote the new national anthem himself.

Name one Nigerian Leader or Politician that can perform like this ?

Such Nigerian is being process in heaven as at today.

It is not possible for Nigeria to produce world class leaders like Sankara and Mandela

I very much doubt it! Even if a Thomas Sankara exists in the Nigeria of today, the people will reject him, especially if he is not flying APC or PDP flag!

Sad to say, the black man has a proclivity for that which is to his own disadvantage. With all the good works of Sankara and d benefits to his people, do u know how he was repaid?? He was only allowed to serve a short time and was brutally killed & buried in an unmarked grave by his good friend who Compaore whose stupid rule was far longer.

From history and first hand narratives murtala would have been one of the best president Nigeria has ever had but murdered early on.
It's sad on how brutally Sankara was murdered but more painful of how unnoticed his name is in comparison to some African leaders.
For this life eehn pple no like pesin weh go make things right especially in this our Nigeria.

There are lots of them in Nigeria, but tribalism, bigotry and religious sentiments will still make Nigerians vote with eyes wide open for another Buhari again and again.
Ain't people already campaigning for a Tinubu in a country of 200 million in this 21st century?
That's why Nigeria is rated among the last 20 countries with least IQ in the whole world
