IBRAHIM MAGU: The EFCC Boss That Loves God And Why We Need To Emulate Him by Nobody: 2:56pm On Jul 14, 2020
Is there anything to learn from Magu?

"...He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her," were the words spoken by Jesus, when a woman caught in an adulterous act was brought to him. Needless to say, no human amongst us is sinless to cast a stone on Ibrahim Magu -- a sinner but 'Godly.'

We might hate his arrogance; we might loathe his gut. We might detest his many noisy trials that started and ended in the media; we might even hate him more, for the many allegations heap up against him. But the suspended EFCC boss loves 'God,' and most religious folks should emulate him.

Although he is alledged to have committed odious and heinous crimes, on a lighter note, Magu -- like Nigeria political class -- is better than most Nigerians: he literally sow seeds into "God's work" in Islam and Christianity.

This is evident in the revelation of his entanglement with the 'revered' Pastor Emmanuel Omale of the Divine Hand Of God Prophetic Ministries. According to the Omale's Libel Suit against NAN, as published by Pulseng, it is noted that Magu was a regular attendee of the pastor's church.

Part of the defamation suit reads, "We, however, wish to make the following clarifications to put the public records straight:

"1. That our client is the General Overseer of an Inter-denominational/Multi-religious Prayer Ministry, which Mr. Ibrahim Magu attends…"

With this disclosure, one could boldly claim that as a devout Muslim, Magu did not shy away from cross-cultural identity. He served his God with both hands, as do many politicians in Nigeria. Note the verb "attends" used by the lawyer is in present simple tense, which means he visited the church often. Given our superstitious inclination, it wouldn't be an overstatement to say Magu loves God.

Additionally, Magu is only toeing the line of Nigeria's political class. Most politicians in Nigeria are known to visit top clergymen with parallel religious views as theirs. No matter how sinful we make them to be, they always find an Imam or Pastor to befriend. Religious lines are blurred with politicians and powerful people.

Many a time we've had politicians or their spouses who boldly sidestep religion to achieve their aims. It would do us some good to remember that Aisha Buhari, the first lady of Nigeria, once visited Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka of the Adoration Ministry sometimes in 2015. The same Reverend Father was also visited by Ganduje, the governor of Kano state, in company of Sen. Ayogu Eze prior to the 2019 general elections. These are just two of the many incidents to recall of politicians crossing the religious line of demarcation.

One might ask why they do this? Why do they practise Chrislam instead of the individual religion that made the whole? Because they are smart. Because they don't see religion through the eye of their foot soldiers. Nigeria and its commonwealth are what bind our politicians together. Money and power make them blind to any religious and ethnic differences that you see everyday. Magu practised this and so should we.

It's high time we dumped our religious and ethnic differences for the sake of our country. If they (politicians) could be united for the sake of our commonwealth, so should Nigerians. Even if you can't practice Chrislam like they do, which I'm not asking you to, we still need to put our ethno-religious sentiment aside for the sake of Nigeria.

Even in his trial, it was reported Magu chose to sleep in the Mosque rather than his cell. He never lost his Islamic faith, as I'm sure his pastor would be praying for him on the altar. So we...

Nothing new because politics embraces religiosity, bigotry, corruption, wickedness and all manner of unimaginable evil one can ever think about.
