Pastor Folu Adeboye was born on the 13th of July, 1948 as the eldest of 10 children to Jacob Adelusi Adyokunnu, a prince of the royal family of Owa Obokun Oji in Ijeshaland, Osun State. Her father was a Methodist minister and teacher while her mother was a trader.

She had her early education at Methodist Primary School, Oke Eshe, Ilesa and Methodist Girls School, Agurodo-Ilesha before proceeding to obtain a Grade II Teacher’s Certificate from United Missionary College (UMC), Ibadan and a Diploma in Education (Science and Mathematics) at the University of Lagos.
