Johnson O. Akinleye, PhD, was appointed the 12th Chancellor of North Carolina Central University (NCCU) on June 26, 2017.

The University was founded in 1910 and part of the UNC system. Prior to his appointment, Mr Akinleye served as the provost and vice chancellor for Academic Affairs at NCCU among other administrative positions in the UNC system.

Dr. Akinleye grew up in Ile-Ife. Upon graduation from high school, he worked at a number of companies, including the local Daily Times newspaper, Shell BP Ltd. and the Ministry of Establishment to save money for college in the United States. He left Nigeria to study at Alabama A&M University where he obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in communication and media technology. He proceeded to Howard University where he earned his Ph.D. in communication studies.

Under Dr. Akinleye’s leadership, NCCU’s enterprise has expanded significantly. Among his accomplishments, the university has increased its enrollment to over 8,200 students in undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs (in both on-campus and online programs) and recorded the largest number of graduates for a fall commencement exercise. Dr. Akinleye has led the development of three new major capital projects, including a new Student Center, a new School of Business, and a public-private partnership building three new residence halls. Additionally, he was instrumental in securing approval for NC Central’s Millennial Campus Designation in October 2018, making the institution the first Historically Black College and University in the University of North Carolina System to gain the designation as a single institution.

Outside of his academic career, Dr. Akinleye is well known as a motivational speaker, consultant, writer, editor, and documentarian who has produced works for independent and government agencies, including the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

You are probably drunk when you posted this.

North Carolina Central University was established in 1910 with 8207 students.

Charles Egbu Leeds Trinity University was established in 1966 with just 3415 students.

Also North Carolina Central University ranks higher than Leeds Trinity University on the world stage.

So which one is an unknown university among the two?
