 Problem

*Electricity has become a part of our everyday lives but

*There is a lot of stress involved in queuing for minutes or even hours with the aim of paying for Electricity units from POS Vendors.
Recharging on weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) becomes a problem since distribution companies(discos) offices don’t operate on weekends.

 Solution

*A utility payment platform that allows consumers to seamlessly buy electricity and recharge their prepaid and postpaid meter online using their credit/debit cards, USSD and bank transfers in 5mins or less.
These platforms are easily accessible on the web (desktop and mobile) and mobile apps. Everything the user needs to buy electricity are:

*An internet enabled desktop/laptop and smartphone
*Strong internet connection using mobile data or Wi-Fi
*Prepaid meter number
*Credit /debit card or bank account details for money transfers

 Predictions

*The real winners in the electricity payments will be startups that innovate around building trust, fast and convenient service delivery; startups that will heavily invest in world-class customer service and pay attention to user feedback.

*WhatsApp and social media platforms (facebook , twitter etc.) messengers as their means of getting customers and will not necessarily need websites to sell units.

 Opportunities and Ideas

*Build an Alarm or Reminder feature into the platform to remind users to recharge their prepaid meter before it expires; We have a lot going on in our heads and minds, it becomes easy to forget we need to pay our electricity so this feature helps user to set a date for reminder to check and recharge before the current units expire . Alarms or Reminders will notify customers to check and recharge their prepaid meter 4 – 7 days before the expiry date.

*Build a “pay with loan” payment option into the platform. Partner with online loans and money lending platforms (Renmoney) with no bills payment feature and enable your customers borrow money from these lending platforms to pay for electricity bills. BuyPower has this feature but there is still an opportunity for brands to innovate with this feature.
