Ughelli – Urhobo youths, under the aegis of Urhobo Youth Leaders Association (UYLA), has asked the Federal Government to suspend plans to divert gas from Urhobo to Ajaokuta, Abuja, Kaduna, Kano and Niger Republic until all host communities in Urhobo land are guaranteed regular electricity supply.

The youths also called for the disbandment of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and inaugurate the new board screened and confirmed by the National Assembly several months ago.

UYLA, in a statement signed by its Acting National President, Olorogun Vincent Oyibode, National Secretary, Chief Tony Ofoni and National Publicity Secretary, Chief Samuel Oghotomo also joined their Ijaw and Itsekiri brothers to call for the stoppage of sales of 57 marginal oil fields to strangers and give priority of choice to investors from the host communities.

According to the statement, the Federal Government must satisfy the demands submitted by the Federated Host Communities to Utorogu Gas Plant for Local Content jobs and contracts for Phases 2 and 3, pay compensation of N500 billion to families of victims of the Idjerhe pipeline fire disaster of 1998 and restore the Sapele Sea Port taken over by the Nigerian Navy.

“MoU with Urhobo oil and gas host communities to work out equitable formula for employment of Urhobo indigenes and execution of major contracts and supplies in the Ogidigben Gas Project as much of the gas stock for the project will be sourced from Urhobo, stop action on the proposed law for Federal monopoly or ownership of Niger Delta rivers and waterways.

“Guaranteed adequate funding for the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun and the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko and stop the implementation of the report of the 2014 National Conference, including 100% resources control, states, Local Government Areas and police.

ignorant human beings. will they eat their gas? some people are just stuupid. The country is trying more to utilize the enormous amount of gas reserves we have by exporting them and some iddiots are here yarning rubbish. so they prefer continuous gas flaring?

Lol. All the comments above points to one single thing... No respect for the opinions of the minorities in the South. Can any of the above posters tell the world how the over 60yrs of oil exploitation benefited the region from where the oil was drilled? No infrastructure, no development and no even clean environment for the region. How then can the new exploitation of the gas to be tunneled throw the north to Morocco going to benefit these minority tribes? Industries will be built up in the north where workers from the source of the gas will be less than 5%. I wonder what manner of people support the on going in Nigeria.
The late Adaka Boro revolted because an oil refinery was built in Port Harcourt. He accused his cousins for not building it at the site of the exploration and thereafter started fighting them. He even supported strangers from the Sahel against his cousins in a war to 'liberate' him and his family. Today the strangers have built two refineries in their own land hundreds of kilometers away from Adaka Boro's region where his family will never be able to get a job. They've polluted the land and water of his family and left them in abject poverty. Few of his children who struggle to make noise will be given crumbs to jostle among themselves. Other times, they're given security jobs for guarding the pipelines and surprisingly they're content with it. Now I wonder what Adaka Boro would say if he was alive.
To the topic, it's a good thing that the Ijaws, Itsekiris and Urhobos are uniting for this cause. Don't let any stories create division in your ranks and above all else, think about the future. Nigeria has no future for you. Non of the request you made will be granted so why waste your time asking/begging for the same things? Think about your future.

I'm Urhobo but there are things we need to get right before trying to outsmart ourselves.

Foolish Youths. Make we face our politicians first by dealing with them. By the time we kill many of them, the others go use their sense.

Blood is more understandable as anger in Nigeria
