Perfume oils are the most concentrated and expensive of all fragrance options. They are pure oils that doesnt contain Alcohol, ethanol, water or fillers and this makes them last for over 24hrs after use.

Its different from Eau de Toilette because that one has little composition of oil and more of Alcohol and ethanol.

So designer perfume oils have same smell with the expensive designers eau de toilette but they last longer.

We have different grades of perfume oil just like we have different grades of other products in the market.

Perfume oil is made by different companies hence there may be slight difference in how each brand oil smell. You can buy a particular fragrance from one brand and get a different fragrance from the one you bought before. Reason why the smell can't be the same with all brand is because it is made from fruits and plants.

Perfume oil is majorly sourced from from two sources: Dubai oil Perfume (lasts up to 24hrs) and French oil Perfume (last 48-72hrs).

There is also the one known as Suratti and Arabian oil perfume.

CATEGORIES OF PERFUMES.

Perfumes or oils can be categorized according to their notes, which are the cents of flavors a fragrance gives off. They can be combined to get a single note.

Citrus
They have the essence citrus & offer a tangy feel. They are gotten from the citrus family (lime, lemon, grapefruit, orange, tangerine & mandarin). They are best worn during the day because they give up a lively & bubbly nature.

Examples, Burberry Weekend for Women, Cartier Eau de Cartier for Women, Jo Malone Grapefruit, Calvin Klein CK One, Maison Francis Kurkdjian Aqua Universalis Forte(floral + citrus), Jo Malone Grapefruit

Fruity
They smell very pleasant and are very popular due to their sweetness. They are sometimes blended with florals. Ideal for dates or romantic outings.
Examples: Marc Jacobs Splash: Apple, Victoria's Secret Very Sexy Now, Victoria's Secret Mango Tempatation

Floral
These draw inspiration from different sweet-smelling flowers like roses, lavender, jasmine, orchid. They are said to be sweet and romantic. It might be a single flower note or a blend of different notes from different flowers. They are feminine in nature. They are appropriate for church.

Smelling of fresh leaves and newly-mown grass. They are usually sporty and energetic. Can be worn to casual events or occasions. It is usually unisex.
Examples: Chanel No. 19, Ralph Lauren Safari, Escada Magnetism.

Oriental
These are a mix of earthy and musky fragrances. It’s ingredients includes amber, musk, and animalistic base scents. This is the family ‘musks’ belong to. When combined with florals, they are called "florientals". The effect is really nice! I would explain more on what scents goes with what under perfume layering. If you want to attract attention or seduce someone, lol, orientals can help with that , hence they ideal for special dates or a romantic night out. Patchouli, vanilla and mandarin belong here.
Examples: Elizabeth Taylor Black Pearls, YSL Opium, Guerlain Shalimar, Givenchy Organza, Versace Crystal Noir, CK Obsession.

Oceanic
These scents use a blend of synthetic compounds to evoke natural aromas such as mountain air, ocean spray or clean linen etc. They smell crisp and fresh, they are an ideal choice for job interviews and official events.
Examples: Christian Dior Dune, Elizabeth Arden Sunflowers, Davidoff Cool Water Woman.

Spicy
Spicy perfumes are comforting, alluring & luxurious in an old-fashioned way. They smell like the kitchen (in a good way oo), Species includes: Cinnamon, neroli, nutmeg, pepper, ginger etc. They are ideal for lunch dates or casual occasions.
Examples Chanel Coco, Jo Malone Vetyver, BCBG Girls, Givenchy Ysatis, Estée Lauder Cinnabar, TF Neroli Portofino.

And lastly,

*Woody*
Woody scents are built on base notes of bark and moss. Most of them have earthy quality while some provide a nice sweet scent; therefore it can be suble in a mature way, or really strong. Ouds belong to this family.
They include: Sandalwood, cedar, frankincense.
It is more unisex than the other categories.
They have this kind of ‘no-nonsense’ vibe.
It is mostly used by corporate workers. It could be worn to a formal or business meeting as well.

What are oil based perfumes called?

Oil-based fragrances are commonly known as “skin scents” since as your body temperature gradually increases, the oils and scents begin to grow stronger.

Are oil based perfumes better?

Advocates for oil-based fragrances say that oil-based scents are better because they are natural. ... Oil-based fragrances also tend to last a little longer than alcohol-based perfumes. Alcohol is a volatile substance, meaning it evaporates quickly. Natural oils don't break down as quickly, so they linger longer.

The concentrated perfume oil is no doubt the mother of all perfumes and this family certainly got no fair love going around given parfum is the favorite kid in this family.

Oil-based perfume is non-drying on the skin and preferred by people with dry skin. Dry skin has a difficult t ime retaining a scent. Oil-based perfume assists in helping skin retain the scent longer.

TYPES OF PERFUMES

There is actually no difference in the productions of these perfumes.

The only difference is the concentration.

The most concentrated are perfume oils. (In perfume oil, the fragrance molecules are dissolved in 98 percent alcohol and 2 percent water, which are then burned off leaving just the oil concentrate). Undiluted perfume oils lasts for at least 24 hours on the Skin & at least 72 hours on fabrics (most times they are on the clothes till you wash them and can still scent traces of the oil even after washing).

The other types of perfumes are alcohol-diluted perfume oil.
I'm going to explain them from the most concentrated to the least concentrated.

Perfume is at least 25 - 40 percent perfume oil/extract & is usually the most expensive. This can last up to 24hours

Eau de Perfume (EDP) is 15 to 18 percent; it can last from 15 - 24hours

Eau de Toilette (EDT) is 10 – 15% . This lasts for about 6hours

Eau de Cologne is 2 – 5% fragrance oil & lasts for about 3hrs

Eau de Fraiche is 1-3% and lasts for about an hour.

Please note that these percentage may differ depending on the perfumer’s choice, this is only a guide, but it is usually around these range.

For those who would want to formulate some DIY perfumes you might want to get acquainted with this.

*CLASSIFICATION OF PERFUMES*
Most perfumes are engineered to have a three-part smell, which unfolds after you apply it. These are what make up a fragrance.

They are:
Top Notes (head note)
Heart note (middle note)
Base notes.

You smell *top notes* within the first 15 - 20 minutes of applying. It is first impression of the perfume and is usually the first to evaporate, so light oils are used.
Next is the *Heart notes* (middle note), which appears after about 20mins. And can last up to 4 hours (depending on the concentration of the perfume). It contains the truest nature of the scent. It makes up the heart of the perfume (it is the core of the perfume), it comprises around half of the oil in the bottle. The chemicals creating these smells evaporate more slowly from your skin. They're probably what you remember about the perfume.

Lastly, the *Base notes*. They form the foundation of the fragrance. They appear after about an hour & work together with the heart notes to create the scent of a fragrance. They linger the longest and last for up to 24hours or more (depending on the concentration of the perfume). You smell them within 4 to 8 hours of application.

How to Pick Fragrance Notes

Fragrance notes play an important role in a perfume’s appeal. The composition of the different notes of a perfume and their interaction with your skin are what make a perfume unique. Without combining different notes, a perfume’s scent would just not be as pleasant.
Since there are so many notes, it can be challenging to pick the ones that you like. One way to start learning your own preferences is to become familiar with the fragrance wheel. After you’ve determined your favorite notes.
