Doctor No Dey - Agboyi Ketu

’…(if) someone falls inside the water, no one has the idea of dressing or doing anything…sometimes, before they take the person to the hospital, the person will give up. But with this, it will help the community’’
-Dorcas Agi, Trainee

Agboyi Ketu is a rural community located in the city of Lagos, Nigeria at the coastal cusp of Ogun state, surrounded by water. Agboyi Ketu residents’ primary source of survival is fishing and trading in sea foods and since there is no linking bridge between the community and other communities, residents only move around in canoes. This exposes them to high risks of falling into the water and possibly drowning or sustaining water related injuries and this is mostly prevalent during the rainy season. The community lacks basic social amenities like roads, portable water, secondary schools and essential health care facilities, they therefore rely on traditional medical health care. Understanding that trado-medical health care and the lack of medical health care facilities poses a major challenge for such riverine communities.
