Although the global box office may be crippled at the moment, one film that brought a dose of hope to South Korean theaters last weekend was Yon Sang-ho's Peninsula. The sequel to the cult favorite for 2016, "Train to Busan," the post-apocalyptic thriller, won $ 13 million at the South Korean box office, according to Deadline. In Taiwan, the Peninsula has received at least $ 5 million in revenue from Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam. The Peninsula also brought IMAX victory this weekend, bringing in global amounts of up to $ 1 million for the first time since mid-March, the last time many moviegoers went to the theater. $ 750,000 of the total IMAX came from the Peninsula. The US peninsula is currently open by Well GO USA on August 7.

The original "Train to Busan" grossed $ 92 million at the global box office in 2016, but continues to live on Netflix. The action horror film featured a "Snowpiercer" esque on a train through a zombie apocalypse. Set four years after the events from Train to Busan, the stars of the Gang Dong Peninsula won as a soldier who managed to escape from zombie-infected South Korea, where the government completely collapsed and turned the country into a poor zone. When he is sent back to Korea to retrieve something valuable, his return is complicated by both infected and uninfected people.

While Train to Busan premiered in Cannes, this was not possible for Peninsula, which made its global debut this weekend. Ion quoted such influences as "Crazy Max: The Road to Rage", "Land of the Dead" and "Thunder" for the sequel. This time, Ion is also working on a larger canvas, reinforced by the success of the original. "The scale of 'Peninsula' cannot be compared to 'Train to Busan,' it makes it look like an independent film," Ion told Ekran.

In Train to Busan, Shadow Age star Gong Yoo plays Seoku-woo, a workaholic who is distracted by his financial work and estranged from the kid and his daughter who lives in Busan. For her birthday, Seok-Woo agrees to take her to her mother in Busan by train from Seoul. But what was supposed to be just a father-daughter journey turns into a ride from hell, as a virus of unknown origin quickly spreads on the train, turning the victims into zombies in quick and disgusting ways.

OVERVIEW - TRAIN TO BUSAN: PENINSULA
There is a certain irony in the fact that a post-apocalyptic pandemic film is the savior of the post-pandemic recovery economy.

Instead of heavy weights, including Christopher Nolan, The Black Widow, The Wonderful Woman, Mulan, the South Korean sequel to Horror, Train to Busan: Peninsula, reappeared to re-launch the Singapore film industry. This is the film itself, which will unite moviegoers when they enter theaters that have been closed for the past three plus months.

Like the original, which has a full train or survivors heading for a mythical rescue, a small group of survivors head back to the South Korean peninsula to retrieve a life-changing package. Survivors risk being exposed to the plague that left the entire country an abandoned dead city after the national evacuation four years ago.

In the current landscape, in which some members of the living population have reduced the needs of many to support the beliefs of the individual above all else. The conditions for survival in the film take on a new meaning, as the characters make difficult choices that seem selfish, but can sometimes be practical.

The peninsula is actually a spiritual sequel to the first, which has become a classic, not only as part of South Korea's zombie-entertaining entertainment (Kingdom, Rampant), but also in the wider global renaissance to the water-based genre (some would say back to their graves) by AMC The Walking Dead.

The peninsula is located in the same universe and nation as the original, but does not contain returning characters, only the circumstances. After escaping with the last boat from South Korea to Hong Kong, where South Korean refugees there have been ostracized by Hong Kongers to carry zombies, the Chinese are similarly blamed for the current COVID-19 pandemic, Captain Jung-seok (won by Gang Dong, Golden Slumber, Illang: The Wolf Brigade) and his son-in-law, Chul-min (Kim Do-yoon) have to deal with the trauma of abandoning the family during the evacuation, even as Jung-seok has the added burden of ignoring others. evacuated during his last escape.

Returning to South Korea is also not an option - burdened by the actions that led to the death of the family, the duo are looking for the rewards that come with the extraction, but are surprised to find that there are still survivors in the country. This includes a group of renegade servicemen who have somehow adapted to the situation by being placed in control.

And because of these discoveries, the story reinforces itself as another myth of human nature in the light of the events that are about to end. Especially those who make horror movies, whether they are slow, dangerous or kind of zombie and the destruction of characters through their stupidity - something that the audience is proud of not based on what they see but as real proven facts, based on Character that puts individuals and people at risk , common sense is not uncommon.

This is not to say that the film is a self-deprecating, selfish, white-collar scandal that has set some Western nations free from the scourge, but what people have done. Events that lead the audience to say that it is impossible (such as not counting people before they get a good port) can now be seen as possible in some places. There is also the whole problem of Jurassic Park - why would anyone allow a place of its own to be strong and have a thriving festival for four years, with no way to get started?

The issue of redemption here is not new, and it is clear that some people will not create a crisis while others have planned to survive. It is clear that Jung-seok may have a chance to survive who may have been disobedient and appear to have been abandoned at the time of his first flight. Is it true that the writers and director do not expect her to do 180 degrees and make her save her and her two daughters in any way possible?

There is also the matter of acting as one of the affiliates. White players set it up and it’s not right - it just doesn’t come naturally. The insane warfare wars have been repeated so far, and nothing new here. And even when abandoned altogether, the roads have become clear that cars are on one side of the road, allowing our readers the opportunity to get through the city easily.

Aside from the chase for a few cars with excessive CGI, the Peninsula does a good job of creating a larger, smaller city occupied by the undead and the environment. Too bad that much is shown at night, making mud means hiding a lot of CGI.

But the audience wouldn’t know that this could be a chase and a zombie chase inside the smaller train, as open spaces cause more damage. Interestingly, the movie has cars, trucks, ships, helicopters - especially all kinds of visible cars, but the locomotive train is nowhere to be found.
