Speaker of House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila , says it is not feasible for states to take ownership of Federal Government roads unless the Privatisation Act is amended.
Gbajabiamila said this while speaking with journalists shortly after he met with the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun , in his Oke -Mosan office, in Abeokuta on Wednesday.
Gbajabiamila , who decried the deplorable conditions of roads in industrial areas in the state , said he discussed with the governor on how the federal and the state governments could collaborate towards enabling infrastructure in the state .
The Speaker explained that during the deliberations with the governor , Abiodun suggested that FG cede some federal roads to the state.
He said , “ It was important that he raised them, especially considering that several companies developing in the state, and Nigeria, are situated in places not passable. It makes that environment very difficult for them to work in .
So, those observations were well received . It is for us to look at whether it is even legally possible for the Federal Government to transfer federal roads to any states. I ’ m not sure how feasible that is .
“ But there is more than one way to skin a cat . So, even, where that is feasible , it might even require the amendment of the Privatisation Act. It ’s the Federal Government assets .
“ But if that is not feasible , there are other models that we can look at it in terms of other people fixing the roads and then the Federal Government owing them or setting off whatever debts owed by the state . So , either way , something definitely needs to be done about those roads. ”

The Centre has a lot that should be handed over to the States, FG Roads all over the nation are mostly bad.

Most times it's the state government that fix this roads, It's hightime states are given more responsibilities in major infrastructures...
