Breaking: Appeal Court Affirms INEC'S  Deregisteration Of Political Parties by okrote4real: 6:51pm On Jul 29, 2020
The Court of Appeal sitting at Abuja on Wednesday affirmed the power of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister political parties in the country.

Justice Mohammed Baba Idris in his ruling upheld an earlier decision by the Federal High Court in Abuja which held that INEC was right to deregister National Unity Party (NUP) which was one of the 74 parties deregistered by INEC.

With the ruling, all pending appeals by other deregistered parties now an academic exercise.

It would be recalled that a Federal High Court in Abuja in May affirmed the Power of the Independent National Electoral Commission to deregister the NUP along with other political parties which failed to comply with the provisions of the law particularly Section 225 A of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

Some of the parties include the Democratic Peoples Congress (DPC), Liberation Movement (LM), Movement for the Restoration and Defence of Democracy (MRDD), Nigeria Community Movement Party (NCMP) and United Peoples Congress (UPC).

Other are Hope Democratic Party (HDP)  Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) and Reform and Advancement Party (RAP).

I hv never seen any good sense in polarising d country into diff antagonistic groups thru d multiplicity of political parties!

It only shows how self-seeking d founders are & how confused d Nation dt constitutionally sanctions d multiplicity is too!

UK, US practice even a more advanced democracy yet they each hv two political parties legally operating & they hv been thriving fantastically well!

Meanwhile, Nig dt seems 2 do copy & paste particularly frm dis two aforementioned countries wil neva copy such good thing dt wil advance d entire Nation; they wil rather invent whatever wil only advance d political leaders & elites 2 d exclusion of d general masses who are gullibly following them!

The constitution shld be amended 2 adopt d suggestion Atiku gave sometime ago dt d maximum number political parties in d country shldn't be more than seven(7)!

I think is really sensible dt way!

After all, all d 93 pol parties hardly hv diff ideologies & principles!

Even if they hv, members of those parties don't actually beliv in such ideologies & principles!

Of course, d frequency & ease at wich party members cross-carpet left nothing unsaid abt d non existence of distinguished party ideologies & principles!

For instance, in advanced countries like d US & UK, it's usually hard & uncommon 4 staunch party members or stewart 2 cross 2 anoda party because of their ideological differences!
