The Peoples Democratic Party senatorial candidate for Ondo Central senatorial district, Ayo Akinyelure, has emerged winner of the district’s senatorial election conducted on Saturday.

He defeated the incumbent, Ayo Alasoadure, of the All Progressives Congress and former Ondo Governor, Olusegun Mimiko of the Zenith Labour Party in the keenly contest election.

Mr Akinyelure scored 66,978 to beat the APC candidate to second place with 57,828. Mr Mimiko came a distant third with a score of 56,624.

Mr Akinyelure was first elected to the Senate in 2011, served a single term and was defeated by Mr Alasoadura in the last general election.

He defected from the PDP to the APC, but lately returned to his party on which he won the ticket.

Mr Akinyelure was however, declared winner of the election amidst protest from officials of ZLP alleging irregularities.

instead of you to swallow your pride and ago back to APC to reunite with Akeredolu, even though he wouldn't pick you as his running mate again, you're busy changing political parties like undies ,just because you want to be a governor by all means. SMH .

he can't win, election will be between eyitayo and akeredolu.
agboola will only divide akeredolu vote number, Eyitayo meant just clinch the governorship seat.

Tax collectors want to milk the DG... Instead of him to calm down and join others to take over power... He is definitely going to throw everything away due to his desperation for power... He is clearly showing with his actions that Akeredolu is not the problem... They will probably sideline him till end of tenure and watch him go into the wilderness... Best bet is for him to support Jegede

undecided iroko have no electoral values as long as Ondo is concern. He came fourth in the senatorial election in 2019.
He would have easily won the election...Many people did not know the difference between ZLP and LP, that was why he lost.

Aketi should help him get the nomination form at ZLP, the votes in the south and central will be divided, consequently, Aketi will carry the day.
