Ebenezer Obey- Early Life, Music Career and many more

Ebenezer Olasupo Obey-Fabiyi, Better known by his professional name “Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey,” is from Owu-Abeokuta, Nigeria. He is a jùjú musician, guitarist, and evangelist. He was born on 3 April 1942 in idogo, present-day Ogun State.

CAREER

Obey started his music career soon after finishing his apprenticeship under late Nigerian guitarist and singer, Fatai Rolling Dollar’s band. He moved to Lagos to pursue his career and started independently before forming the music group, “The international brothers.”

The International brothers were so successful that the band is called on to perform at any significant ceremony in the country. The group introduces more guitars, western drum kits.

In the 1970s, the widely known band changed its name to Inter-reformers. The band released eight albums throughout his career with over 60 records. In the early ’90s, Obey became born again and became a gospel singer.

Obey is also described as the one who transits juju music from neo-traditional form to modern way.

The inter-reformers released their highest selling record in 1972 with the “board members.” The record was released after their return from the United Kingdom.

Ebenezer Obey – Personal Life

Ebenezer got married to his long-time girlfriend, Olaide Olufade, in 1963 and welcomed their first son, Shina.

On 23 August 2011, Olaide died at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital at age 67. Obey is blessed with several children and grandchildren.
