With schools reopening for graduating pupils this week after months of closure due to the coronavirus pandemic, parents of pupils in private secondary schools in Ogun State on Sunday kicked against the request of N25,000 COVID-19 test fee by the government.

Many of the parents, who took their demonstrations to the streets, faulted the decision of the government to ask them to pay N25,000 on each pupil before they could be allowed to resume.

The state government had said no boarding school pupil would be allowed to resume without a valid negative COVID-19 test certificate.
The government also asked the parents to take their wards to designated places for the test between Friday and Monday.

The dissatisfied parents on Sunday thronged the MTR 250 bed specialist hospital, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the designated place for the pupils in Abeokuta.

I still don't understand this idea of parents paying 25k per child for covid 19 test when schools resume. angry

When has the pandemic become a revenue generating situation for the govt?

Are they stupid or just flying a kite? The same covid 19 that has dwindled people's income is what the govt wants to cash out from?

Exactly.

As long as the govt has made it compulsory, it should be free as well at the expense of the govt.

You don't impose an exercise on the poor populace and still expect them to bear the financial responsibility.

If the govt goes ahead with this unpopular exercise without financial backing, how do you expect a civil servant with 4 kids in school to comply? Not as if it was already in his plan.

Nonsense and ingredients. angry

Bros, we are a people and government with no conscience. There is no love in this country at all. Churches everywhere but they are not influencing us the right way. I will say I am a strong believer in the doctrines of Christ but the church has failed us, the pastors don't care as long as the church coffers is full. which is why tithe is a contentious issue among us. I have come to realise that if we have love in our hearts, empathy will be there but unfortunately, it's far from us.

I just hope CAN or the religious bodies in Nigeria can take up the issue of telling the places of worship to leave every other message and preach LOVE into our minds for a whole year and see what the result will be because our challenges start from our mindset and only by relating the place of God in mankind's affairs will resonate most.....but will the heads of the religious houses do this, I don't think so as they are more concerned flying private jets, having people revere them more than normal, building worship auditoriums with the biggest capacity etc.

We all need a change of mindset in this country otherwise, being a security guard in one of the western countries will continue to be a better prospect than being a medical doctor in Nigeria.
