The Alliance for Advancement of Human Rights (AAHR) has berated Senior Pastor of the Latter Rain Assembly and convener of the Save Nigeria Group (SNG), Pastor Tunde Bakare’s passionate plea urging Nigerians to back Major-General Muhammadu Buhari’s candidacy for the presidential seat, based on a survey he carried out which allegedly singled out Buhari as the best candidate.

The group also described as ‘discordant statements” over a supposed $50,0000 bribe Pastor Bakare alleged that the presidency attempted to bribe him and other members of the SNG with and that since Bakare himself had withdrawn the statement, he should apologise to Nigerians over the false alarm of a bribery scandal that never was”

In a statement the AAHR’s Publicity Secretary, Mr. Ebikebri Brown also said, “While we note the remarkable role played by Pastor Bakare in pulling Nigeria from the brink of chaos during the tumultuous days of the absence of former President Musa Yar’Adua and the lacuna it created in government, we are at a loss as to why he would now want to rubbish that laudable feat by turning around to play divisive politics

“Not only are we utterly embarrassed by the remarks credited to him discountenancing a generational shift which majority of Nigerians stood for, his decision to become the mouthpiece of Buhari and the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) is a back-slide that is not in tandem with democratic principles that allow individuals to make personal choices” Mr/ Brown said.

While asking Nigerians to always seek the face of God for the emergence of God-fearing leaders, the group insisted that Nigerians can no longer be fooled by religious leaders that have strayed from their original calling and entered into an unholy wedlock with politicians.

Mr. Brown further stated that : “Bakare should retrace his steps by remaining non-partisan so as not to tarnish the image that he has cultivated over the years as a fearless man of God. He should not backslide into the murky waters of politics”.
