IMOLE DE- A Poem For The Broken by lalaponcus(m): 7:35am On Aug 05, 2020
IMOLE DE
Inspired by MIV choir's rendition of Dunsin Oyekan's masterpiece.

He was broken beyond despair.
Crawling on the road of life after being battered by the robbers of disappointment.

His was 30
Yet his hair all white from stressful living.

Relatives hated his guts because he dared.
Dared to aspire to fly in a lineage where running was unimaginable.
Dared to find love in the arms of Jesus while the family's sigidis (effigy) desired him for priesthood.

His relatives truly hated his guts, my friend.
For he wanted to be fruitful in a land where barreness was celebrated with much pomp and pageantry.

And so they sent for 'okunkun' (darkness)
Shook their death wands and beat the drums of madness for the young bloke.
Oh, they did more.
His 10 names which he never knew rolled down sweetly from their tongue as they stood before their mirrors.

Okunkun came.
Along with legion beasts, darkness invaded the man.
Grey vultures of depression feasted on him day and night.
The wolves of sicknesses, dark as the night, gnawed at his bones while their howls overshadowed his screams.
The rats of poverty nibbled at his belongings and feet all night.
The hyenas of disappointment aimed for his tender thighs and took generous bites.

His life was a cesspool.
Of brain and blood spattered around.
Of virtue and precious resources carted away.
Of wails and guttural groaning uttered from a dying man.
Of laughs and champagne glass chinking by delighted dark foes.

..
...
....

A tiny voice was heard as okunkun feasted.

..
...
....

The voice became a roar and a blinding light accompanied it.

Imole de!
Light had come.
The lion that owns Judah had come for His cub.
The Physician who resided in Gilead had come to save His patient.
The Prince, whom the broken man called 'Abba', had come!

Darkness fled.
Okunkun ran with its tail shrunken within its legs.
Its friends cried in death induced pain at the blinding lights and Abba's presence.
For the Lion had lunged for their jugulars and snapped them clean off.

For you, dear reader.

Imole de!
Wisdom has come.
To every confusing reality, light has come!
To every crooked knot defying solutions, lighthascome!

Ayo re ti de!
To every broken one, the balm of joy has come.
To the 'agan' (barren), life is being activated in your womb.
To every destitute, your daddy, the real Baba Olowo, has come.
To those in need of connect, your omnipresent daddy is whispering your name in those exalted boardrooms.

To those seeking victory, your papa don show!
Ajagun ma lo ada ti de!
Aja ma yin ibon ti de!
The Olusegun has shown with His own army.

With chariots and heavy looking machine guns, papa don show
With heavy Uzis and millions of nuclear powered aircraft carriers, your papa don show
With billions of nuclear bombs and impregnable submarines, daddy don show!

So, bring your hand to your chest.
Tap it once and say
"Ayo mi ti de!"
(My joy has come)

Tap it twice and say,
'Imole mi ti de!'
(My light has come)

Tap it trice and say,
"Daddy don show!'

For this is the confidence we have in God.
That when we ask anything according to His will, He will hear.
Yes.
God will hear. And come speedily to save.
