The government needs to wake up to its responsibility, intervene and prevail on the port operators and shippers to be efficient or be penalized cos they are making a killing by all the congestion from demurrages so they don't want things to get better, and the consumer bears the most brunt. But the port authority is very corrupt and not modernized.
Exporting from Nigeria is a herculean task
Nigeria is doomed.

Which government and which Nigeria?
Do you mean the people who are the same as the government and who own the government as well as Nigerians who make up the geographical area called Nigeria?

I heard that they are more than 5 other non-functioning ports in the country and yet none are being used.

We need sea ports in the south to help decongest our sole dependence on the Lagos mainland sea ports, which in turn would decongest traffic in the Apapa terminal, all this heavy traffic would be reduced if drivers had alternative routes and the distance from the west to the south is reduced!
