Blasphemy: Kano Muslim lawyers back death penalty on Kano musician, urges govt to comply

THE Muslim Lawyers’ Association (MULAN), Kano branch says there was nothing wrong with the death penalty passed on Shariff Sharifai, a musician convicted for blasphemy, urging the State Government to comply with the conviction

The association stated this in a statement signed by Muhammad Garba, its chairman of the association.

“The honourable Judge of Upper Shariah Court Hausawa was right in his judgment in which he convicted and sentenced the accused to death for blasphemy against the holy prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) without prejudice to the right of appeal of the convict,” MULAN said in the statement sighted by The ICIR.

The association further urged the executive arm of the Kano State Government to comply with the sentence of the court.

“MULAN urges the Executive arm of Government in Kano State to ensure strict compliance to the Judgement as part of its commitment towards proper implementation of Shariah,” the muslim lawyers said.

According to them, the act for which Sharifai was convicted is recognised by the Kano State Shariah Penal Code and provided in section 382(B).

They noted that the convict had also confessed to the offence for which he was prosecuted during the trial of which detail is contained in a Whatsapp group known as “Gidan Umma Amina”.

Garba noted that the stand of the association is that the Judge of Upper Shariah Court Hausawa was right in his judgment in which he convicted and sentenced the accused to death for blasphemy against the holy prophet Muhammad.

According to Garba, “the judge was right because the Supreme Court had decided in the case of Abubakar Shalla Vs State (2007) 12 MJSC at page 52-53 paragraph G-B that the position of the Law under Shariah is that any sane and adult Muslim, who insults, defames, or utter words or acts which are capable of bringing into disrepute, odium, contempt of the holy prophet (S.A.W) such a person has committed a serious crime which is punishable by death.”

To kill a whole human being for blasphemy and set free or turn a blind eye at politicians stealing billions and billions of dollars. Travesty of justice in its finest form.

To kill a living person because of a dead one is absurd especially since the living person has no hand in the death of the dead one.

Religion should not guide the conduct of any sane society.

Hope they won't forcefully spread the law across to the south? Let it remain there as it is meant for themselves, else they are aggressively calling for secession.

-As a Southerner, we don't kill or prosecute for blaspheming against God the Holy Spirit. God will avenge Himself. So, their law is baseless here when people blasphemes against Jesus Christ, Allah, Mohammed, or Sango, Amadioha, any gods, etc we leave it to God to judge.

Their law should remain there..

The so called condemned blasphemer has been a subscriber of this law for so long and he would have been part of those clamoring for the death sentence of blasphemers in his religion! undecided

For instance, a thief was caught in my presence one faithful day, the youths in the area wanted to burn him to death (jungle justice) but before they burn him an old woman begged them to allow an elderly [JW] to say something, the youths dragged the culprit (bruised) to the elderly man, he asked the thief "are you a Muslim or a Christian?" most youths among the angry mob knew him very well so they exclaimed "he's a Muslim" but the elderly man insisted they should allow the culprit to speak, which he did by confirming that he's truly a Muslim. So as a former Muslim, the elderly JW brought out a book in which the Sharia laws are stated and his Bible. Then before the all present he read out loudly what the two books says regarding how to judge the case.
The Sharia says a finger should be chopped off from the culprit's hand while the Bible says he should be monitored to pay back seven fold of what he has stolen to the owner. The elderly man now asked the theif which verdict do you prefer? Without hesitation he said "the Bible's judgment".
Though the angry youths initially wanted to burn him alive but a lesson was learnt that day by the one narrating this experience today.
I thought within myself "why did this guy deny Islam in the face of justice?" of course he would have shouted "Allah Akbar" if it's another person, but because it's now his turn to face the verdict that his religion has been given many people in the past he quickly debunked his long held Faith! undecided

Please if he's a Muslim and a true one at that, this is the time he should prove his loyalty to his God by submitting to the will of Allah which says "blasphemers should be killed". The last time a woman was killed because of the same offence, there was no call for mercy because the woman wasn't a Muslim, how come everyone is now objecting when it comes to the turn of a real Muslim who knew very well the penalty for blasphemy? embarassed

I think those lawyers are fighting for justice based on the law of the land to which the accused himself is a bonafide advocate! undecided

Is he a Muslim?
Because according to Islam Muhammad is the greatest of all Prophets so that couldn't have come out from the mouth of a real Muslim! undecided
