The Nigerian Bar Association, Damaturu, Yobe Branch, has joined to protest against the action taken by National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on 20th of August 2020, via virtual zoom where a purported resolution was reached to withdrawal the invitation earlier sent to Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir el- Rufai.

This was made known in a statement on Friday by Chairman of NBA Yobe, U.N Lukman ESq.

The group described NEC action as unconstitutional, saying “it is against the pillars of nature justice on the presumption of the innocent and fair hearing as enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 and equal opportunity to every citizen of Nigeria”.

Also, the group lamented that at no time during the NEC meeting it members from Damaturu, were allowed to vote on these resolutions which the group consider as a thin air, lies, and deception against the person of governor el-Rufai.

It said that the alleged NEC meeting was a sad affair that is mockery of professionalism and equal treatment Which it resolution is concealing hatred and disunity amongst the Association.

The group added that, there is more to be done to improve the lives of is members which is paramount, saying, now is the time it’s members will work for the benefit of NBA.

However, the group said it is concerned and protest accordingly for the purpose of record, therefore, put forward the following demands:

* “To immediately take drastic measures to set aside this unpopular resolution withdrawing the invitation of mal Nadir el-Rufai as guest speaker in the forthcoming conference.

* “Tender appology, to Mal Nasir el-Rufai.”

The group threatened not to participate in the Virtual Annual General Conference of the NBA, if their demands were not meant.

In response to the outcry, the Nigerian Bar Association on Thursday withdrew its invitation to el-Rufai to speak at the association’s annual general conference.

The Kaduna governor described the move as bias in his reaction.
