In case You Missed It: We’ve Spent N10bn On 2nd Niger Bridge So Far — Jonathan by Nobody: 2:19pm On Aug 22, 2020 |
President Goodluck Jonathan said the Federal Government has spent N10 billion on construction of the 2nd Niger Bridge out of the N130 billion total cost of the project. The President disclosed this when he stopped over at the project site in Asaba on Saturday on his way to PDP campaign in Onitsha, Anambra. Mr. Jonathan said it was a big project being executed under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement. He said that now that it had taken off, its execution would go on smoothly and uninterrupted through to 48 months completion period. “So far, out of the N130 billion total cost of the project, we have spent about N10 billion. “It is a big project and now that it has taken off, it will go on smoothly through the 48 months completion time. “The project is a PPP arrangement, I am quite impressed with what I have seen,” he said. He added that most components required for the construction had been procured and piling work had commenced. The Minister of Works, Mike Onolomemen, said a lot had been done since the flag off of the project in March 2014. Mr. Onolememen said the contracting firm, Julius Berger Nigeria, was engaged because of its antecedents, adding that almost all the procurements for the construction of the bridge were imported. According to him, work was in progress with the piles being driven into the ground and dredging going on along the River Niger. “For us, it is a thing of joy and certainly before the next raining season, a lot of piles would have been driven in. No doubt, development of infrastructure takes a long time.” Detler Lubasch, Managing Director, Julius Berger, said work on the project would be sustained. Mr. Lubasch said the project would be of enormous social and economic benefits and significance to the country. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/regional/ssouth-east/175127-weve-spent-n10bn-2nd-niger-bridge-far-jonathan.html |

The funding for second Niger Bridge was secured by the GEJ administration via Chinese loan. The railway projects were funds secured by GEJ. According to Ameachi, they are still working on securing theirs! 1 Like 1 Share |

DMerciful: More reason ndigbo deserves an apology from the likes of GEJ and Amaechi. 10bn injected in a bridge and not even a pillar was standing and now Amaechi is sourcing for loans to build rail connection in South south and non for ndigbo... Tomorrow if another person does that he will come and say he initiated the project...deceit upon deceit.. Ndigbo needs an apology now.. |

What Igbos need is a restructured Nigeria or separation. All these roads and bridges have little impact to what we envisioned MelesZenawi: |

DMerciful: Little Impact as how? The bridge needs to be there, it will serve as border in case the separation..with border gate. Finally, Igbos needs apology first before restructuring. |

If Igbos need apology, it would be for the pogrom and eventually the atrocities committed towards the Igbos during the civil war by way of blockade and starvation against war practice as well as the continued political marginalizations MelesZenawi: |

DMerciful: What dignity? You all always rise in defense of GEJ. Inspite of the unflinching support Ndigbos gave him, he did most projects in the north. All he did was to appoint some Igbo people in people who fended for themselves only. Igbo deserved more than appointment. That's why I kept saying it Buhari is not loved by the Igbos but so far, he has done more to the Igbos than GEJ did. We should be object. You would recall that GEJ swore to go to exile if he didn't finish the second niger bridge. As far as I am concerned, even if you are my family member and I can't benefit anything from you, I can't blindly route for you. |

DMerciful: Dignity with no projects. Not surprised, guess you are from south south and the need to defend that GEJ dignified ndigbo when there is nothing on ground to show for it. |

famouscargo4u: You are very correct. leave the Dmerciful of a guy, I think he is from south south more reason he is justifying what is not existing. even the bridge he refused to start it, he only comes there for campaign. |
