The World Health Organization has certified Nigeria Polio free. This followed the certification by the World Health Organization in the Afrca region of wild polio virus eradication.
According to NTA, President Muhammadu Buhari described it as a personal fulfillment of his 2015 pledge to Nigerians that he would not bequeath a polio-endemic country to his successor.
He said the achievement comes at a time when the global community is battling CoVID 19 strengthens his conviction that with the requisite political will, investment, and strategies, the curve of the epidemic can be flattened.
Nigeria is the last country in Africa to be certified polio-free. So presently, the diseases can only be found in Afghanistan and Pakistan. There is no cure for polio but the vaccine offers life-long protection.
