INVESTIGATE THE VIOLENCE AT EMENE

Amnesty International condemns the violence in Emene, Enugu state on Sunday and call for an immediate, independent and impartial investigation into the incident that led to loss of lives. At least, four people were killed when the Department of State Security (DSS) entered Emene in Enugu, south-east Nigeria and opened fire on unarmed members of the pro-Biafra group IPOB who were holding a meeting. The DSS in a statement yesterday said that two of their operatives were also killed in the incident.

Eye witnesses said that they saw a combined team of DSS, police and the military at the scene. Some of the security forces were reportedly seen shooting directly at IPOB members who were seen carrying stones and sticks.

Amnesty International condemns the violence and call on the authorities to investigate the incident and bring those responsible for the violence to justice.
