President Muhammadu Buhari has blamed middlemen for the high prices of food items in the country.

The president however said his administration is not leaving any stone unturned to ensure the crash of high prices of food items in the country.

Mr Buhari who gave the assurance on Thursday in series of tweets, said he has ordered the release of the 30,000 tons of maize from the national reserve to animal feed producers.

He also said the recent price hike of food items nationwide won’t last long as his administration and food producers are in talks.

This is coming after the All Progressive Congress (APC) led government increased the price of petrol and electricity tariff.

“To ease the current high cost of poultry production, I have approved the release of 30,000 tons of maize from the national reserves, to animal feed producers,” Mr Buhari said.

“We are very mindful of the challenge of high food prices, at a time when the economy is already in a slowdown caused by the global coronavirus situation, and are doing everything in our power to bring down the prices of food items across the country.

“Let me assure Nigerians that this situation of spiraling food prices will be a transient one.

“We are also engaging with food producers associations and groups to tackle the issue of exploitative behaviour by middlemen and other actors, which is one of the factors responsible for the high food prices being experienced,” he added.

LGEA Railway Quarters Primary School Needs your Help*

The pictures attached is the current state of the 8 unit toilets meant for pupils in a low-income community school in kaduna South local government.

Because of the state of this toilets the following has been happening:

1. Most pupils take excuse to go home to defecate and end up not coming back to school, this makes them lose out on what they should learn during school hours.

2. Young girls who are menstruating tend not to come to school at all during their cycle, because there is no convenient place for them to take proper care of themselves during school hours.

3. Pupils urinate and defecate anywhere in the school which has made the school compound unhealthy for both pupils and staff. This has led to illness that has made some pupils lose out on school activities.

The current state of the toilet is as a result of the damaged school gate which led to outsiders using the toilet during off school hours. The school gate has been fixed with barbed wires on its perimeters and now properly being locked during off school hours.

Sanitary measures are being put in place for maintenance of the toilets and promotion of good personal hygiene.

As a Teacher and a Fellow with Teach for Nigeria I am concerned on the state of this facility and would love to be supported to execute it.

Your support to fix the toilets will help;

1. Keep the children in school to learn what they should learn during school hours.

2. Menstruating girls to be in school while on their period.

3. Keep a healthy environment

4. Promote Learning

*Things are difficult now*

What we need to fix all 8 toilets is: #300,000
We have #51,000
We need #249,000

Anything you can help with will be well appreciated.

*Your #500 can go a long way in helping these children actualize this dream.*

Middlemen ke ?

Sir this is 2021, middlemen are not necessarily the problem of hike in prices of food.

Herdsmen are not allowing farmers farm comfortably

High cost of transportation of the little food produced from farm to the consumers

Etc.

What he just defined is simply commerce. Has been in existence since time immemorial. The government should simply provide good road networks, cheaper and alternative means of transportation, stable economy, reduce the pump price of fuel and encourage more people into farming.

True, but this is a one-off project and no cooperate account as it is a government school. I am just a concerned fellow who wants to help fix it. Can you kindly suggest a better way I can go about it? Seems I am getting something wrong.
Thank you.

This has been its state since my arrival as a teacher and a fellow with Teach for Nigeria in 2018 and no attempt whatsoever has been made to fix it.
