Buhari Expresses Concern Over Sudden Rise In Price Of Food Items by Ababbio: 4:58pm On Sep 03, 2020
President Muhammadu Buhari has on Wednesday, expressed the concern of his admistration over sudden in spiral of food prices across the country.

In a stament issued by the president Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, in Abuja on Wednesday, he regretted that the increase in prices of food came at a time when the economy was already mired in a slowdown occasioned by the global coronavirus situation, saying the situation is transient.

President Buhari said the government has already begun looking and putting in place measures to ameliorate the situation. Various food producers, particularly those of rice and other grains are engaged.

The stamen reads:

“While Providence has been kind to us with the rains and as such an expectation that a bumper harvest would lead to crashing of food prices and ease the burdens on the population, government’s concern is that the exploitative market behaviour by actors has significantly increased among traders in the past few years and may make any such relief a short-lived one.

“This year has indeed tested us in ways that globalization has never been tested since the turn of the century. These challenges have disrupted lives and supply chains all over the world, and Nigeria has not been spared.

“The effect has been deeply felt in the delays encountered in the procurement of raw materials for local production of fertilizer (damaging standing crops before harvest) and the speculative activities by a number of rice processors who are ready to pay for paddy at any price to keep their mills running non-stop.

“But of all these problems, the most worrisome are the activities of “corrupt” middlemen (with many of them discovered to be foreigners) and other food traders who serve as the link between farmers and consumers found to be systematically creating an artificial scarcity so that they can sell at higher prices.

“In dealing with these problems, the administration has, in line with its ease of doing business mantra, avoided imposing stockholding restrictions, in order not to discourage investments in modern warehousing and cold storage.

“The President has just approved the release of food items from the strategic reserves, including 30,000 tons of maize to animal feeds producers to ease the high cost of poultry production.

“President Buhari’s administration has raised some of these issues with the various food producer associations involved, particularly those of rice and other grains.

“With their cooperation, the high food prices should soon be a thing of the past.

“In addition, investments in the agro-allied sector by the private sector will significantly increase domestic production of farming inputs especially fertilizer, further crash prices, create employment and ease the pressure on our foreign reserves.”

Continuing, it said, “One of these major investments is the Dangote Fertilizer plant which is projected to come on stream by the 4th quarter of 2020.

“Additionally, key government agencies and policymakers with the responsibility and visibility on market activities remain focused on removing structural impediments to the production and free movement of agricultural products.

“President Buhari once again assures Nigerians of his dedication to bringing this issue to a swift end.

“Nigerians have already suffered grave economic losses owing to the coronavirus pandemic, and the Buhari administration will do all in its power to ensure that our people do not continue to suffer additionally from high food prices.”

Our darling daddy was probably expecting a fall in the prices of food and other commodities when he made policies such as the border closure, increase in VAT and other well meaning moves for his beloved followers. This statement from the presidency is a classic case of the oppressor mocking the helpless with sarcastic pitygrin ...

By the way, waiting for the Suya Patron to come spew his usual curses at the "children of hate" and defend his darling daddy who doesn't give a shiit about his existence. All well-meaning Nairalanders should remember him and his "legion" in prayers because if care is not taken, they'd lick BooBoo's balls till they choke on it coz it's quite obvious that's what he does for a living, his Suya business is just part-timegrin grin grin

Lol... He'll not know what's going on till we break apart...
It's imminent!!!

This shit hole is breaking up slowly but steadily... I laugh at anyone who feels there hope for this country... There is more hope for Afghanistan than Nigeria....

Everyone knows we're rich in every single thing except human development..

So lol everyone is just waiting for it to break so that they can Scramble for it... China being wise is making investments already... You wont see trains in the south, but you will see them were the Chinese feel there will be a lot of confusion after the break hence pretending to put everything back on will quench the confusion and turn the people to slaves....

The only people I pity are the middle beltans because the little christianity left there will be quenched should a break occur...because as the maps say there are in the middle belt but are still part of the north......

The yoruba's are like wolfs very intelligent and very hard working, but the dog part of a wolf has made him loyal to the bird just because it has wings... The bird eats up everything the wolf helps catch and remains just enough to keep the wolf loyal... But imagine a pack of wolfs ruled by wolfs .

The ibgos..are elephants very powerful and majestic and can make it we're everyone else can't.., but when it comes to putting forces together everyone starts remembering which elephant lives in the jungle, or which lives in the plains or which lives in the Savannah.. they too have become loyal to the bird not because it has wings but because each group of elephants have sent envoys without the knowledge of each other to the bird who tells each of them the same thing and that is "you are greater than your brother" a lie they believe.

The Niger deltans.. are a group of bees living together in a colony providing honey to the bird who promises not to eat them provided they shut up and keep producing honey.. even when the the bird is also spoiling their comb by taking more than honey.. they don't complain because when they do the bird eats few of them and no other bee wants to be eaten so a swarm of bees who are a million more plentier and stronger shuts up...the queen bees prefer to be submissive even when they are a greater foe.....

Whose the bird, I'll leave you to answer..

Here's to who we are!!

Bunch of hypocritical cowards...

But not for long fellas..
