Agbegbaorogboye:The only reason stopping sale of our refineries & the construction of new ones is subsidy, The Federal Government has assured Dangote & Rabiu subsidizing of Petroleum products is gone, do you think Dangote is stupid to go and borrow $16 billion dollars to build a refinery when subsidy will exist?, or Rabiu signing a deal with Axxen of France just some days ago to build a refinery in Akwa Ibom State?Notwithstanding most Nigerians will always prefer imported refined crude, because it is way cheaper than Nigeria’s high grade low sulfur Qoe Iboe crude oil. In the United States oil from Nigeria is what is sold as Supreme or Premium gasoline in Gas Stations, not all that regular high sulfur fuel from Venezuela, Iran & elsewhere. |

favor914:What manner of illiteracy is this? I suggest you get properly informed on the subject. What does sale of refineries or construction of new one have to do with subsidy for Pete's sake? Dangote's refinery is nearing completion and he started building it while subsidy was still in play. Those refineries are not lucrative for sale. It's only a TAM that's the way forward which the powers that be are not interested in due to political interests. I don't know who told you Nigeria's crude is sulfur filled. I suspect you're ignorant on that matter. How exactly will Nigerians know the difference between imported PMS and locally refined ones? Do you think fuel is bagged like rice or toothpaste? |

timid101:It appears, from your post, you don't know what subsidy is. Petroleum price is increasing because subsidy, they claim, has been removed. |

Right move by Vice president Atiku. On February 8, 2013 African Business magazine in an article title “the shocking truth about fuel subsidy fraud” described Nigeria oil subsidy as the world biggest national frauds. Investigation into Nigeria oil subsidy program by the magazine finds the following: 1. Most alarming fraudulent practice listed in the magazine against Nigeria oil for subsidy program said “Nigerian government pays subsidies on 59m liters of fuel a day while the country consumes just 35 liters a day “ 2. Nigerian government paid or owed $14bn in 2011, up 154 % on the previous year, and almost two-thirds the amount Abuja’s entire budget for the year, which stood at $22bn 3. The number of companies importing fuel increased from six in 2006 to 140 by 2011—suggesting that they are huge profits to made from the trade. Have you ever wondered why Nigerian government was unable to remove the oil subsidy program? Profit by fraudsters was the reason. So, removing this oil subsidy program does not mean Nigerian government is going to return this money to the pocket of Nigerians. That is because President Buhari has not said so. And that means someone is pocketing it. Just tells you how hard it is for Nigerians to win. |
