Former governorship aspirant and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Joe Odey Agi, has emerged the Senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming October 31 Cross River North Senatorial District by-election.

The Chairman of Cross River North Senatorial Primary Election, Alhaji Suleiman Nakowa disclosed this to newsmen at the party’s national Secretariat in Abuja on Friday.

Nakowa said the polled Agi 113, 229 votes to defeat his closest rival, the Vice Chancellor of Calabar, Prof. Zana Akpagu who scored 8, 635 votes.

Others who lost to Agi include: Harry Godwin Ode, Ochicha Ode and Fidelis Ebi Egoro.

Agi is an Abuja based lawyer and was involved in the 2015 governorship contest in his Cross River home state on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as an aspirant, where he lost to the incumbent Governor Ben Ayade.

The committee chairman said the election which was conducted through a direct primary mode, was peaceful.

This Cross River North elections will reset so many things before 2023. It is Ayade's litmus test on his popularity in Cross River State. APC likely to emerge victorious if PDP fails to put its house in order

On the flip side, I see a party that is emerging stronger from its previous crisis. The National Caretaker Committee under the leadership of Mai is waxing strong

Joe Agi SAN is a very thorough politician in the State. I must confess that you are right with your assertion. But if APC are serious with this elections, they will defeat PDP. One thing is certain in this election, Ayade won't go down without a fight neither will Jarigbe. This is what we want to see in Cross River

Prof Zana Akpagu would've beaten his PDP counterpart hands down! He's loved by the entire northern Cross Rivers

FYI he is loved by those he dished out fraudulent jobs to that has now backfired. IPPIS has refused to enrol them because University of Calabar exceeded its quota of recruitment. Over 1000 persons were recruited during the pandemic. What does that imply to you? He was out to appeal to their conscience just so he can garner votes for himself in the elections.

What about social amenities in some places in his senatorial district that was done by him even when Sen Rose was still alive? Remember, Rose Oko just died during the pandemic. Prof has been doing good even before he became the VC right from his days as a commissioner. It's hard to believe but he's even loved in Obudu than Ayade

Who is the highest employer of labour in the 5 local govt areas in cross river north between Ayade and Prof Zanah?
Zanah has touched many lives with job in unical, forget about this pandemic employment issue/ political manipulation, intents of employment I give it to Zanah.

Also, I'd like to know about this public service rules

He did it because of the elections. He is one of the most corrupt V.C in the history of University of Calabar. ASUU-UCB are planning to go on protest for the huge backlogs of unpaid entitlement of staff. He is a regular customer of EFCC. Thank God Magu that used to back him up is no longer there
