Yeah, we know that anyone can die at anytime and we must all die one day.

But let's ask this question that why do most of our sportsmen die under 50 or suddenly look unfit once they retire? I'm asking this question vin comparison to their foreign counterparts.

A previously active 48-year old retired footballer dying of cardiac arrest secondary to hypertension.

This is just my observation.

Oga it’s Sooting not shooting. Don’t ever argue with Ibadan fans or supporters of IICC or 3SC. Even legendary Odegbami would be appalled if you shout shooting instead of ‘Sooting’...mind you this is coming from an Enugu Rangers fan.

RIP senior man Ajibade Babalade. May the Almighty grant him eternal rest.

I’m hearing this for the first time. Ajibade was never ‘Barbwire’. It was Collins Ebitimi of firmer Stationery Stores that had that name.

I watched him live, great guy, big strong legs that will either dispossess you of the ball cooly if you are nice or roughly if you try naughty tricks and most times, he succeeds without getting cards or warning while you are on the floor writhing in pain from his tackle.

I once saw him up close without his shin guards, his shins were full of scars and bruises...this was at the UNEC stadium Enugu where Enugu Rangers train, he joined from stationery stores then. Great team at the time.

Sorry to digress but have to mention that Rangers also bought one Dotun Alatishe, very short guy with incredible speed, dribble and skills all with his left foot.

Naija had players. Good Ol sweet days when people like me would memorise 3SC team names or Abiola Babes players names.

Nairaland has done me bad.

He also played for Iwuanyanwu Nationale in 1991, partnering Isaac Semitoje in the heart of defence as they reached the Semi Final of the African Cup of Champions Club, alongside players like Thompson Oliha, Ben Iroha, Tony Nwigwe, Collins Amadi, Okwuchukwu Nwaobikeze, Sylvester Oparanozie, Rowland Warri, Ben Kluvi, Obinna Obiaka, Yakubu Umar.

His transfer from Stationary Stores to Nationale after helping the former win the !990 Challenge Cup was for a then Nigerian league transfer fee record of N45,000 (forty five thousand naira)

Ewoooo!Ajibade Babalade has finally gone....I will never forget his match for Nigeria against Ghana in the semi final of Senegal '92 where he almost killed Nee Odartey Lamptey as well as the final of the CAF champions league final in 1996.He scored a stunning free kick in Ibadan to make it 2-0,though Zamalek later scored 1
