Qquite recently, it was announced that American Movie Mogul, Tyler Perry is now a billionaire. How did that happen? It was only in 2005, that the world heard of him through his movie, “Diary of a Mad Black Woman”, and now, he is counting his net worth in billion dollars! How did that happen? Simple – For many years, Tyler Perry focused on building a brand.

Not just that, Tyler Perry also made sure that all his creative input were executed and owned by him. If you are a fan of his movies and stage plays, you may have noticed that he writes his scripts, he produces and directs all his films and stage plays as well. This has given him creative and pecuniary control of all his movies and stage plays.

What this control has done for him is to increase his net worth, to the extent that he is now a billionaire.

A big lesson to learn from this is control. You know that no matter how long you work for someone else, you are not in control of anything. One of the best ways to ensure control is to focus on building a brand in whatever industry that interests you, even if you have a full time job.

It is very important to note that there is nothing wrong with going to work for someone, in order to earn a salary. Absolutely nothing wrong. However, building a brand that connects to your heart, is equally important. There are a lot of professionals who have worked for many years to earn salaries that they could use for building a brand.

Whether you are currently employed or not, there must be something that you are connected to that does not factor into your day job, something that is after your heart. How about you concentrate on building a brand form that?

For those who hold a full time job, there are a lot of lessons to learn on how to hold down a side hustle while working a full time job. Also, for anyone who is yet to become employed, look around your immediate environment and find out what the people want/need but do not have yet or barely have and provide it for them. This way, you are not just building a rand, but you are solving problems and meeting human needs.
