INEC Moves To Probe Fire At Ondo Office, Says Election Will Hold Despite Incident

Spokesman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Festus Okoye says election in Ondo State will proceed despite the setback caused by the fire incident which destroyed more than 5000 card readers on Thursday night, Igbere TV reports.

Mr Okoye, who was in Akure for preparations for the governorship election scheduled for October 10, told newsmen that the inferno would not affect the conduct of the polls.

He said card readers would be collected from other states which are not conducting elections.

“This is just one state election. What we are going to do is to mop up smart card readers from other states and use them for the conduct of the election while investigating what happened,” he said.

“The cost of 5,141 smart card readers is so much, but we are not going to dwell on that now.

“What we are going to dwell on is to mop up smart card readers from other states that are not conducting elections and use them to conduct Ondo governorship election.

“We will dwell on other issues regarding the configuration of the card readers.”

Fire incidents at INEC offices close to election day are becoming commonplace as about 4,695 smart card readers were destroyed by fire that razed INEC facilities at its headquarters in Awka, Anambra in February 2019 barely four days to the general elections.

Igbere TV recall that there was also similar incident in 2019 at the INEC office in Plateau State and Abia State where its facilities including card readers were destroyed by fire.

Timing is everything.
But I don't know why Nigerian politics has turn to a do or die affair.
That arsonry was intentionally carried out for a sinister purpose; it clear that something untoward is bound to happen in this upcoming election. undecided angry

The saboteurs of democracy will do everything to undermine our electoral process but we will remain one step ahead of them. Nigeria remains the best and purest form of democracy in Africa.

Its fast becoming a norm... burn the card reader warehouse before the election, make use of incident forms and then burn the incident form storage alongside Inec office after the election..

People may actually think that

this is the work of politicians or tactics to

postpone the upcoming election in Ondo state.

But it will be a surprising thing that the office was

set on fire by INEC officials themselves so as to

release funds for them in the name of renovation

and buying of equipments. This is the reality of

the story. Just as NDDC never want covid19

cases to stop. Ondo state INEC workers knows

that no one will look at their side till 2023 after

this governorship election. The more reason they

set their own office ablaze just to cash out in bulk.

THIS IS NIGERIA

I don't understand this government , must fire outbreak be the only solution to confuse Nigerians.....

Election time .....fire outbreak in all Inec office

Covid 19 fund saga.....fire outbreak in accountant general office

Pls let the government find another means to help the masses get more confused.....
