GUS for life..
pray for their comeback

You don't need to pray. A special edition held around 5-6 years ago in Lagos, P/H, and other regions. It was merely a marathon race that lasted 3 hours or so. A friend won a car (brand new Hyundai) in the Lagos edition and that was it.

Another version is out again, sponsored by Baba Ijebu. Like others, I know you wouldn't hear about it because it has become as useless as it can be.

We must admit that GUS is dead and gone for good and stop comparing unreasonably.

It's a choice. Besides a movie has a plot to be followed. Whatever erotic scene is usually instrumental to the movie progression. Erotic scenes are highly unnecessary in reality shows. Too me.
But you still watch @the bolded. You think big brother isn't scripted?

Let's compare Big brother Naija and Gulder Ultimate Search and see which is more relevant and entertaining.

For over a decade, the Gulder Ultimate Search TV show aired on our television screens captivating hearts with its thrilling displays, collections, intriguing display as well as daring contestants who participated in the show.

The Gulder Ultimate Search also known as GUS is a Nigerian reality TV series which was created and sponsored by Nigerian Breweries Plc. to promote the Gulder Lager beer.

The show made its debut in 2004, garnering mainly positive reviews from fans and critics alike and featured about a dozen acclaimed editions before it was suspended abruptly few years ago.

The fan-favourite reality TV show is a survival type reality show which showcased the struggles and perseverance of contestants usually about 10-30 persons.

The contestants are expected to juggle different daunting tasks as they struggle against themselves and the wild in their search for a hidden treasure which would bring the winner instant fame and fortune.

Past winners of the reality show have gone on to become instant celebrities making their names heard in their respective fields. Before the show was suspended, it featured a celebrity edition which saw versatile Nigerian actor, Emeka ike emerged winner.

Now BBNaija

BBNaija was conceived in 2006, as a platform to promote the Nigerian brand as well as the rising dominance of the country’s entertainers on the entertainment scene in Africa.
Obi Asika, then CEO of Storm 360, who was the producer of the ground-breaking reality show, once argued that the show was more than putting adults in a house and have cameras follow their every move. For him, it was bigger than that, as he planned to use his then production crew and music to sell the Nigerian image to millions of Africans. But today, that idea had been defeated, and what has become of the show is better imagined than said. While many Nigerians described it as ‘borrowed culture which has affected our morals negatively,” others commended the producers, saying “the show is pretty unique and entertaining.” this show has been described ponographic in nature and not suitable for all.
Many people have critize this show .

Which is more better between Gulder Ultimate Search and Bbnaija?
Which would you scrap and which will you leave?

I don't watch BBN ,what can fa? I detest the show with passion,I can't spend a minute to sit down and watch it, useless program that promotes immorality

Bbnaija beats Gulder Ultimate search hands down

Is it revenue wise, or viewership accross Africa, dynamic games , reality show storyline, social media trend

Gulder Ultimate Search barely test your Physical strength in a jungle. Big brother tests your character, smartness, emotional intelligence, tact and everything you have to offer as camera runs 24/7 and you are been watched as heaven watches sinners in this world

.

Also add that BBN also tests your ability to have sex live on national TV without shame.

Sinful generation.

It's a reality show isn't it. Anyway if it's scripted(ignorant of such)it still remains a comparison of intellectual value. Why are films rated. What are they hiding from children. If the purpose is to conceal immorality, why should it be shown to adults. Does it stop being bad simply because you are mature.

I mean one Africa task.. Innosun vehicle task, Airtel female child education task? Betway and Betnaija Arena games, Pepsi challenge

.
BBN intellectual task?

Ovoko!!!.
There's nothing intellectual about BBN.
Stop sounding like a marketer.

You will need to discard the idea that BBN is an immoral show for me to have a discussion about it.

If you think Airtel, Pepsi Co, and others will sponsor por.n, then we shouldn't be having this discussion. You will need to study Airtel's social responsibility policy for us to have a reasonable discussion.

Living in the jungle for a few days is not the reality of an average Nigerian, just in case you're interested in reality.

To also say that immorality is the reason BBN has huge viewership or sponsorship is c.razy.

Sponsors are interested in brand promotion and viewership. Whether the tasks are kindergarten in nature to you or not, the fact is that viewers get the premium entertainment they paid for.

I understand that it wouldn't make sense to someone with a preconceived idea about the show but it is what it is.

I also don't understand how Ronaldo gets paid in millions of dollars for kicking a ball. It doesn't make sense huh? Yeah, it sounds like we are paying for immoral football but it is what it is. Sponsors only put their money wherever the viewers want.

I wouldn't pick GUS over BBN because the GUS I know ended over a decade ago. I can't compare what I last saw 15 years ago, the era of VHF or so.

A live show that had a male contestant rubbing his female counterpart breast and buttocks (Kidd & Erica) is what?
A live show where a female contestant told his partner she's worried about their unprotected sexual activities (Vee & Neo) is what again? It teaches Moral right? That's why it's rated 18.

Your second counter argument is baseless and doesn't hold waters. These companies are looking for more market shares and as such leveraged on this show because of its large viewers. Some Nigerians are gullible, they're ready to watch anything as long as it doesn't make them think.

There's nothing preconceived about it. The history of housemates sleeping with each other have been going on since the inception of BBN and will not cease as long as the show continues.

You comparing football to this show says a lot about how shallow this argument is.
CR7 didn't start earning that bogus amount today, he worked his way up to this very moment. Go and read Ricardo Quaresma's life journey and see how they were fed pork intestines at Lisbon academy, how they had to train with a pair of football boot for over 2years, how they missed the warmth of their families , how their girlfriends stole from their parents to help these lads buy clothes. Have you read Sadio Mane's football journey? It was a process that involved a lot of endurance and perseverance.

And to cap your comment, you said living in the jungle is not our reality. Is this country not a jungle? Don't you read how people are scared for their lives ?

Gulder ultimate search is pre recorded hence there is the tendency that some events might be removed however it doesn't mean it outshine big brother in this regard. My question is, how does the highlighted sponsors recoup what they had invested all in the name of sponsorship?

Brands will pay anything to get more patronage. When a brand sponsors a task on Big Brother, the brand immediately becomes a talking point on the social media. Only on Twitter, we see more than a million tweets running per day on the big brother hashtag. If 1 million people are talking about you in one day, at least 2% can be converted to customers. That's 20,000 people! Wouldn't you rather pay N10 million to get 2000 customers?

We also have sponsors who only come to reinstate their values, promote a particular product, brand recognition, brand visibility, and brand perception. Imagine seeing Indomie noodles on your TV for 3 months, you wouldn't go to the market to buy another brand of noodles. It's marketing gimmick.

Some new brands also come for recognition (e.g. Kuda Bank). Imagine building a brand and you have the opportunity to promote the brand to over 30 million real people at the same time. Would you grab it or not??

The last category of sponsors are the likes of BetWay and Guiness (the major sponsors). These are the main promoters for this year. They're in for the profit or otherwise (loss). BetWay placed N2bn. If Big Brother fails to make money through viewership, then that's a loss for BetWay. Whether viewers watch or not, Betway has signed a deal to spend N2bn. It means they're not relying on you, the viewer to subscribe, before they feed or pay the housemates.

Lol... So as a sport lover, are you paying 16,000 on DSTV premium every month because Ronaldo drank garri as a teenager or because you enjoy whatever it is Ronaldo is doing on your screen??

Are you paying for Ronaldo's suffering in college?

The one problem of GUS is that they made it One-man sponsored thing. It's all Gulder. If it was the Ultimate Search, it would have been a sold out to the world.
#bbnaija have a lot of sponsors because it isn't a one company thing.

Both is about the youth and I love it.

As sport lovers, many people have used seeing Ronaldo and other sport stars on TV to win huge of sum of money varying from live bets and viewing centre bets on teams.

The same applies to BBN albeit in different ratio.

Each of the housemates become stars in few weeks. Viewers and fans are used to seeing the housemates. A lot has staked their funds on who they feel would win this season on the BetWay platform. Millions of tweets are being generated on Twitter on a daily basis across Africa.

So you see, it all doesn't make sense. Whatever is making people keep up with trends on BBN, football, comedy, movies, etc. is definitely unrelated to entertainment.

Even on Nairaland, the Big Brother thread now has about 8000 pages in 7 weeks. It doesn't make sense but it is what it is.
