South African Dafribank gives palliatives, N100m scholarship to Anambra Community

A South African bank, DafriBank limited in collaboration with Umeh Foundation, has given a N100m scholarship to children of Ezinifite, in the Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.

It also gave food palliatives worth millions of naira to the people of the area to cushion the effects of the COVID -19 pandemic.

Handing over the N100m symbolic cheque to the community's leadership on Sunday,The donors said the scholarship would run for 10 years of N10m per year.

The food items shared to the members of the community, especially, the aged and widows included 250 bags of 50kg rice, 800 cartons of tomato puree, 800 cartons of cooking oil and N3000 cash to each of the beneficiaries.

Addressing the beneficiaries, a staff member of the bank , Onos Oma, said DafriBank with Umeh Foundation were in the community to alleviate the sufferings of the people that had been affected by the pandemic.

She said, " We want to give out 16 metric tonnes of food supplies: 250 bags of rice, cartons of tomatoes and others to the people.

"The founder and chairman of DafriBank in South Africa, Mr Xolane Ndhlovu is a son of the soil. He hails from here, Ezinifite community, Aguata LGA of Anambra State.

" We have made impact in no fewer than 23 countries. We have done this in South Africa and we are here also to give back to the community," Onos said

The President -General of the community, Nze Ikem Okwonna, said it was the first time the community was witnessing such a largesse, while calling on othera to emulate such gesture.

He said the education support fund would lift many children who according to him, had dropped out of school because of poverty.

Nollywood actress, Patience Ozorkwor, who graced the occasion, enjoined the community to make good use of the scholarship by sending the less privileged children of the area to school.
