Only technical colleges in Kano state have been given permission to reopen and commence studies to prepare for leaving examinations.

The state commissioner for education, Muhammad Sanusi Sa’id Kiru explained that the coming 2020/2021 NABTEB examimations was responsible for government’s decision to open the colleges.

He said in a statement obtained by Nigerian Sketch that the directive to reopen the colleges was contained in a memo forwarded to the state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

The commissioner also said the state government would be spending up to N16 million to procore PPEs for the students as well as feed and provide their daily upkeep while in school.

Issues have been raised regarding why the state government has not reopened all educational institutions, but the administration has insisted that the COVID-19 pandemic has not been eradicated.

Citizens have querried why only technical colleges will resume in Kano when the government had opened up all markets, football viewing centres and motor garages even when the pandemic was still raging.

Government in the state however felt that even the federal government was yet to allow schools to open.
