First of all, the Black Boxes are small and positioned in the strongest parts of a plane. But yet, there have been cases of cockpit voice recorder as well as flight data recorder black boxes being ruined in a crash but the experts only managed to repair the recording tapes. So, even black boxes do not always survive plane crash. |

If a plane was made of armoured steel, the passengers would still be killed if it suffered a sudden impact / crash. Remember, it's not only deformation that kills, a human body suddenly stopping from velocities above 50mph would most likely cause certain death. Sudden stoppages would cause internal organs to continue travelling, tearing them from their positions within the body cavity. They'll continue travelling till they tear through the chest / abdomen, and death is certain. This is why cars have crumple zones built into their structural design, controlled deformation saves lives, no different with an airplane. |

Planes are made by using a very strong but light metal called Duralumin. But the box are made of a different metal. If the planes are made of the same metal as the box then it will be too heavy to fly. |
