We have this female dog in the compound where I live which we goes by the name jack, you might be wondering 'why name a female dog jack, isn't that a masculine name' well to be honest I wasn't present during the naming ceremony so I'm vindicated (�).

Now to the main reason of this article. So post lockdown and travel ban I came back home and jack didn't welcome me as she used to. whenever I return from a journey no matter how long I've been away, jack always welcomes me. I was surprised and wondered what could be the problem with jack.

Days went by and I observed lifestyle changes from the way she used to behave as well. First she changed her sleeping spot, sleeps in an awkward position (lying down on her back and raising both posterior and exterior limbs up), too quiet, she acts nonchalant about things, even if anyone wants to play with her she just pays attention to the person for a few minute and she'll want to be on her way to god knows where, she used to bark at night and even chase bike men for fun, she'll always want to follow me in the evening whenever I am going out to get something, sometimes she stops and go back home when I take a bike and oh she used to be playful too.

I later got to find out from my siblings that she gave birth and all her kids were sold (how sad). Now that explains her depression, all my life I've never seen a dog behave that way. Since I found out I've been trying to help her get back to her old self and good news now is she's been making progress, she's now escorting me again though not as frequent as before and last week she chased a bike when she escorted me, I used to scold her before whenever she does that but I was just smiling that night and allowed her to have her fun.

Jacks getting better by the day but still not her old self yet. Oh and before I forget its a local breed (what most people like to call ekuke).
