There are only a few legends in Nigeria, and Solomon Dalung, Nigeria’s former Minister of Sports and Youth Development, is among them.

When Solomon Dalung was at the center of sport administration in Nigeria, he gave us some WTF moments that made all Nigerians home and abroad proud.

Dalung was one of the Ministers that turned things around in this nation, no wonder things have not been as interesting as they used to be when Dalung was in charge.

Truly miss Solomon Dalung, and today, we are throwing back to some memorable things the former Minister did and said when he was in charge”

1) He wore one Uniform throughout his tenure as a Minister

Solomon Dalung doesn’t spend unnecessarily on clothes, he only wore his Khaki uniform and topped it with his customary red beret; a very frugal man.

His then Special Adviser, Nneka Ikem said, ‘’Dalung is a staunch activist who cares for the welfare of the masses. His wears portray the struggle for the government to provide a better life for the people.

2) He never expect anything good from women footballers

Solomon Dalung is also a man who expresses his thought and feelings with an innocence of a child. In 2016 when the Super Falcons won the African Women Championship and the Sport Ministry failed to pay the players all their bonuses and allowances, Solomon Dalung said,

Funny Things Nigerians Share As Souvenirs At Owambe
“Don’t forget that nobody even knew the team would emerge victorious, if we were confident they will emerge victorious, all the Federation would have done is to plan for process of participation and entitlement.”

If all Nigerians can just imbibe this man’s childishness, our country will be great.

3) Solomon Dalung visited Gongola State in 2016

According to Wikipedia, Gongola State is a former administrative division of Nigeria. It was created on 3 February 1976 from Adamawa and Sardauna Provinces of North State, together with the Wukari Division of the then Benue-Plateau State; it existed until 27 August 1991, when it was divided into two states – Adamawa and Taraba.

Dalung was busy fighting for human rights to be aware that Gongola State no longer exist

On April 6, 2016 Solomon Dalung posted pictures from a football match he attended at an IDP camp where he referred to the state he went to as ‘Gongola State’. He said,

“I attended a football match between Internally Displaced Persons IDPs of Gongola State and footballers from the Diplomatic Community yesterday to mark the United Nations International Day of Sports for Peace and Development”

4) Solomon Dalung Said the World Cup is too corrupt for Nigeria to participate in

Before Solomon Dalung became the Sport Minister, Nigeria had participated in 5 FIFA world cup tournaments, but the Minister said participating in a FIFA World Cup competition was a total waste of time and resources. His reason was that we will never win the world, so why participate in what you know you don’t stand a chance to win? What a great logic!

He also said the competition is too corrupt for a country like Nigeria who doesn’t understand what corruption is. He said: That competition stinks of corruption; Nigeria is too poor to waste money on it. The cup that we can win is the African Cup of Nations. There is
