pls my fellow nlanders, a lecturer was lecturing about electrical circuit when i heard him said my names are instead of my name is. So now which one do you think is more correct?

Well stated. "Is" is singular, "Are" is plural --- so it depends on how many names.

Rubbish! 'My name is' is correct, nothing like 'names are'! So my GST409 lecturer told us!

We assume "My" is singular, so "Is" in this context must be singular, hence it ought to be My name is --- One can also say, "The" can be used as plural, "The names are"

"My" is singular, "Is" is also singular, "The" can be used --- as plural ----

My is singular, but we can say 'my books are on the table' and not 'my books is on the table'
