Popular Nigerian singer, Yemi Alade has recently been appointed goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme. (UNDP)

The organization took her official Twitter page to welcome the singer to the UNDP family.

The tweet reads,https://gisthubnaija.com/united-nations-appoints-yemi-alade-as-goodwill-ambassador/

“We’re pleased to welcome Nigerian superstar @yemialadee, as our newest UNDP Goodwill Ambassador! We thank Yemi for being our voice for a green and equitable recovery”.

Similarly the new ambassador, Yemi in a video posted on her Instagram page stated that the role will enable her shine a spotlight on the disproportionate impact of the health and socio-economic crisis on the poorest and most vulnerable people, who are mostly women.

In her words,

“It’s an honour to be named UN goodwill ambassador to the UNDP programme, an agency whose core mission completely aligns with mine, to end poverty and to erase all forms of gender inequality.

“Women are among the 4 billion people who are trying to survive COVID-19 without any form of social protection.

“I want to lend my voice to these women and other vulnerable people who make up half of the world that’s struggling to make ends meet. They don’t have the luxury of working from home and are putting their health at risk just to put food on the table”.

This year has been a very good year for the Yemi Alade. Few months ago the Nigerian Afropop singer, made the list of 100 most influential women in Africa.

The list was compiled by Avance Media, and these women were drawn from 34 African countries with their respective contribution to the development of Africa being considered
