Origin of Dogs.

No one can actually say for sure the origin of dogs, but it is believed that the history began about 40 million years ago in a remote sort of way.

Once upon a time, there was a small family of carnivores (animals that feed on meat) then called Miacidae. The Miacidae family had two descendants, Daphaenus - this gave rise to the bears.
The Cynodictis, a much smaller creature family, gave rise to the dog-like animal called
Tomarctus, which is believed to be the ancestor of dogs, wolves and jackals.

In those days, it was widely believed that the wolves and jackals were the ancestors of dogs. The dogs, wolves and jackals all belong to the carnis family. Other school of though hold strongly that dogs are descendants of the wolf.
