This was a highly coordinated military ambush conducted by well trained combatants who obviously had the element of surprise on their side. Those men stood little chance of survival against battle-hardened terrorist gangs now operating freely throughout much of northern Nigeria.

Once that belt-fed heavy machinegun began raking the convoy of vehicles with reckless abandon, and a couple of RPG rockets got launched at the convoy's lead vehicles, the bulk of the casualties would be inflicted in mere seconds of utter pandemonium along that lonely highway.
