The Warri Business District of Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) was on Monday thrown into mourning following the death of a District Business Manager, Celestine Nwadinobi, an engineer.

It was gathered that Mr Nwadinobi had earlier been kidnapped on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 in his hometown, Orlu in Imo State. According to our source, he was later released by his captors on Friday, February 25, 2011 after some undisclosed amount of money was paid as ransom.

But the joy of his release was short-lived as he became ill thereafter and was taken to a private hospital in his hometown where he died on Monday, February 28, 2011. The deceased was described by those who spoke to NEXT as a very humble and hard working person, saying that they were going to miss him.

It was also learnt that he had gone home to attend to some domestic issues when he was kidnapped.

Reacting, PHCN’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) Warri district office, Emmanuel Ibude, described his death as not only shocking but devastating to the entire staff of the district, most of whom were still basking in the euphoria of his release the day the news got to them.

According to him, “we still find it difficult to accept that Mr Nwadinobi is no more. Just a while ago, we were rejoicing over his release by his captors and just as we were still waiting for him to come back and recount his ordeals to us, we got the news of his death and that brought so much pain and sorrow to us.” He said “What has remained a mystery to us was the circumstance surrounding his death. However, we will take consolation in the fact that God who sees and knows all things is alive and only Him can unravel this mystery.”
