TUC: Comparing Nigeria With Saudi Arabia Ridiculous by HenryThegreat1(m): 4:25am On Oct 02, 2020
The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria has condemned the comparison between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia made by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), in his Independence Day address.

The President, TUC, Quadri Olaleye, in a statement on Thursday, said the comparison was unnecessary as Nigeria was not at par in all ramifications with Saudi Arabia and other countries mentioned.

He said the country had achieved nothing despite six decades of oil exploration, adding that the government was paying lip service to infrastructure development.

He said successive governments had looted, laundered and wasted the country’s resources while patronising hospitals outside the country.

Olaleye said, “It is like comparing black and white. It is that bad!

“It is ridiculous to compare Nigeria with Saudi, Dubai, or any other country, not even in Africa. With the natural resources that we have, we could rule the world, but government is not interested. There is no need for this comparison because it looks like the president is defending fraud and the impoverishment of Nigerians.

“Come to think of it, what has Nigeria achieved with all the money made from oil since over six decades of oil exploration in commercial quality? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. All successive leaderships have done is loot, launder and buy properties in foreign land.

“So, if the president is defending the hike (in pump price), what does he want to do with the surplus they will make from the hike? The same old story of providing infrastructure! Our roads are nothing but death traps. Our leaders are not patriotic at all.”

He argued that in Saudi Arabia, roads, water, and to some extent, jobs were not big issues.

“On the other hand, Nigerians contend with estimated bills because power firms had refused to provide meters,” Olaleye added.

Just as the government was also stupid in contesting the UK visa ban by comparing Nigeria's worst level of development to that of Britain. This is what happens when you truly have an incredibly stupid, grossly irresponsible and incompetent fella as the president of a nation.

But they agreed to suspend the strike.
They ain't see anything yet.

This should be a wake-up call for labour.
- They should demand the minimum wage obtainable in Saudi Arabia.
- They should demand for the work conditions obtainable in other top Oil producing countries.

But what do I know? undecided undecided
Labour that has been betraying it's members since the start of this regime lipsrsealed undecided

When it favours them, they dont hesitate to compare. But tell them tomorrow that minimum wage in Saudi Arabia is 3,000 Riyals (the equivalent of 304,980naira) or that their citizens enjoy free health care and free education at all levels and they will remind you that Nigeria is not Saudi Arabia. This Buhari and those who advise him are a bunch of dumbos.

Did Buhari compare Nigeria to Dubai, Saudi Arabia etc?..mhen, the guy's problem is getting worse by the day. Clearly he living under an illusion.
This is the major reason I don't bother tuning in to Presidential broadcasts anymore. It so full of complete nonsense.

Somebody should take or dear President on a visit to those countries peradventure he might notice the clear difference and stop dreaming.

Re: TUC: Comparing Nigeria With Saudi Arabia Ridiculous by Nobody: 5:40am On Oct 02, 2020
Well, here iis what the BuBU was really tryiing to sy

1.Saudi Arabia produces 11 million barrels of crude per day, Nigeria produces less than 2 mmillion a day
2.Saudi Arabia has 34 million people, Nigeria has 200million peple
3.As a result...this is important...Saudi Arabia earns far more money from oil than does Nigeria, and as such has fewer people to spend it on.
4.Thus the amount oof money Saudi Arabia has to spend on subsidising fuell is far more than what Nigeria has
5.Also, it costs far less to produce oll in Saudi than it des in nIGERIA.Saudi oil is mostly in the desert, Nigerian oil is in highly populated mangrove, and 60% is offshore...which increases costs for a variety oof reasons
6.Subsequently, the price that we need crude oil at to have enough money for our needs? It is $139 per barrel. Saudi needs oil at $80 per barrel
7.We don't have the money with oil below $75 per barrel since 2014 tosubsidse fuel...and as a result NIGERIA has been taking loans to help pay for susidising fuel. Our refinereis are in a baad state because price controls prevent the from being profitable enough to run effectively
8.So, as much as i hate to sy this, and as much as i don't like apc OR PDP, Buhari is right. We cllaim he should not be comparing us to Saudi, yet we want to buy oil at prices cheaper at Saudi without the income the Saudis have availablle to subsidise fuell
9.And the TUC and even Buhari are partly to blame. 9 years ago, they joined hands to stop GEJ from partaly remving subsides , and since then we have wasted 5 -6 trillion naira on subsidy paayments. AND BORROWED to help pay for more suubsides.
10.At least Bhari has kinda seen the light(He has to scrap PPRA, and allow marketers control the price bfore i start taking him serious).TUC seems to think that we can somehow import fuel above 200 naira per liter and sell it at N40 per liter wiithoout it having an end efect on our economy, or without peoople smuggling fuell to Chad to sell at 346 per liter, or Niger to sell at the same price...and make a profit.
11. OIL SUBSIDY MUST GO. Since 1993, when Baroness Chalker came to speak the truth, and we called her an imf agent.

Modified

Thanks for all the comments.

Istill stad by what i wrote.

The truth is, if we removed subsides and allowed NNPC to be privatised, we would end up selling fuel at 300 and above.

But because NNPC is now private, aand not in government hands, that means that NNPC wuld be incentivsed to repair and fix the refinereis, because if they don't they won't earn money. So, refinereis, work, and we end up with reduced importation of fuel

ALSO, more private refienres would be built to take aadvantage of higher prices.

This leads to increased production, and eventually prices fall.

The savngs realised from subsidy removal can them be channeled into education, health, etc. Did i mention that we would stop taking too much loans as a result...now thaat government has more money

Plus inreased production of gas due to more refinereis means reduced prices for gas, and as a result, reduced prices for power....and more profits in the power sector, and moere jobs

Plus morepower means more indstries, and more job creation

Ten to twenty years from now, Nigeria would be prosperous and successful, easch and every region would stand on its own, then we can safely talk restructuring without worrying about war.
