The past one week saw an agitation and outcry by citizens of Nigeria screaming for the scrapping of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). Nigerians, especially youths, moved from using social media hashtags to taking to the streets to protest and air their views regarding their dissatisfaction with this Unit of the Nigeria Police Force.

There were allegations that some Operatives abused their power and brutalized, assaulted, and extorted innocent members of the public. Over the years, the Unit has been banned, disbanded and reformed but it continued to face relentless allegations.

Nigerians claimed that they had fallen victim at one point or another which prompted their endless protest. Sporadic protests broke out across the States as Youths came out in their hundred, carrying placards to say “End SARS”, “EndPoliceBrutality”.

These protests gained international attention as global media agencies and influential personalities aired their views on what was happening in the country. Influential personalities and yahoo boys were also said to have fueled the protests by giving protesters incentives such as food, money, among others.
