Although President Muhammadu Buhari has vowed to ensure justice against police brutality, the EndSARS protests which began barely a week ago is gaining momentum.

This is because the youths are calling for a  complete police reform, even after the authorities have disbanded the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) Unit of the police.

Many people believe the power of real police reform lies with the President.

And so, if President Buhari acts fast and right, the EndSARS protests will cease immediately.

So far, Nigerian activists and celebrities like Davido, even international stars like American singer Trey Songz and Kanye West have taken to the social media to speak against the brutality the now defunct SARS have committed all these years.

So, let's quickly look at five things President Muhammadu Buhari need to do, if real reform must happen in the Nigerian Police.

1. Computerized the Police

If the police can make all their processes, records and operations digital so that data of suspects, arrests made, and the names of all men and officers be published online; people will have confidence in the police because of the transparency they will experience.

EndSARS protesters will relax their agitation, if today they see that the Nigeria police has a fast way to use DNA and fingerprint to arrest criminals.

It's not hard to install such a system. It will only cost the country money for training the police personnel, but citizens will trust the Police more.

2. Increase Police Salary Now

Money is a good motivation for hardwork, because it creates a better quality of life and sense of financial security.

Some activists have argued that  part of the corruption problem with the Nigeria Police has to do with their poor pay. Consequently,  they collect bribe and extort money from innocent citizens.

For Nigeria the average salary of a low level officer is about N45,000. Compare this to South Africa, which is an estimated N502,000 per month...
